Le Cellier offers a wide range of discoveries: a long circular hike through water-carved ravines, trails with views of the Loire, historic buildings and wines from Domaine des Génaudières. When planning your stay, the mix of experiences you want is a good place to start. The trails have clearly named destinations, while culture, riverside landscapes and wine each offer their own highlights.
Hiking between the coulées and the Loire
The 13.5-kilometre Les coulées circular trail starts in a 7-hectare area owned by the département in the commune of Le Cellier. It passes through deep, narrow ravines carved by runoff on its way to the Loire. These water-carved coulées give the circuit its character.
The 5.8-kilometre Circuit des Folies Siffait circular hike also passes through the coulées of Le Cellier and reaches the village of Saint-Méen, with its exceptional panorama of the Loire. It is the shorter alternative to the 13.5-kilometre Les coulées circuit and combines its route with a specific viewpoint. This gives you a choice of distances and destinations.
If you prefer a named viewpoint as your destination, the Château de Clermont circular hike offers one: it starts behind the church in Le Cellier and leads to a viewpoint overlooking the château. Another hiking option is the GR3 trail along the Loire between Oudon and Le Cellier.
Riverside landscapes and nature
Île Neuve covers 16 hectares of natural areas, with wildlife, plant life and landscapes typical of the banks of the Loire. This natural setting complements the carved ravines of the coulées with another way to experience the Loire landscape.
Experiences associated with Le Cellier also include a trip on the covered boat operated by Détours en Loire, which starts here. Check the latest information about the trip before making specific plans.
Architectural history and heritage
Château de Clermont was built between 1643 and 1649. It has been listed as a historic monument since 1941 and has remained largely unchanged. The Château de Clermont circular hike also brings the building into focus with its viewpoint.
The Église Saint-Martin was built in several phases between 1896 and 1919. One of its notable features is an impressive collection of frescoes by the Lemasson brothers.
The Folies Siffait have been listed as historic monuments since 22 July 1992 and are located in a Type 1 ZNIEFF area. The Jardins des Folies Siffait have been closed to the public since 2024. As access status may change in connection with restoration work, check again before your trip.
The Priory of Saint-Méen in Le Cellier served as a resting place for pilgrims and was a stop on the Breton pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela.
Wine from Domaine des Génaudières
At Domaine des Génaudières, visitors can discover wines such as Malvoisie Coteaux d’Ancenis, Muscadet Coteaux de la Loire, Gamay rouget and rosé wines. The estate also offers a view of the Loire and its slopes.
