Quimiac offers several ways to shape a stay: sailing lessons at Pointe du Toul Ru, a coastal walk to Lanséria Beach, the long La Vélocéan cycling route, and the architecture and art of Chapelle Saint-Louis. These themes do not prescribe a set itinerary. First decide whether activity, scenery or culture will shape your stay; this will help you organise the different highlights and then search more specifically for a hotel in Quimiac.

Sailing and a long coastal route

The Base nautique Walden de Quimiac is located at Pointe du Toul Ru and offers sailing lessons. It has been based there since the 1960s. This brings a specific leisure activity and a longer history of the site together in one named location.

The La Vélocéan coastal cycling route covers a different scale: it is 148 kilometres long, connects Saint-Nazaire with Pénestin, and passes through Mesquer-Quimiac. This puts a long-distance connection spanning several local areas alongside the specific sailing activity at Pointe du Toul Ru. The route describes an extensive course, while the sailing centre offers an activity at a particular location.

On foot and at Lanséria

The La Pointe de Merquel circular walk leads to Lanséria Beach. Tides and the condition of the path may affect the coastal section; check both before setting out.

Quimiac’s playground is located in Allée des Mouettes in the Bois de Quimiac, covers 5,000 square metres and is close to Lanséria Beach. Its location and size provide a specific point of reference for visitors who want to include this leisure spot in their plans.

Chapel and landscape

Chapelle Saint-Louis is a rare contemporary chapel with a tall bell tower and a statue of Saint Louis by Jean Fréour on its façade. Inside are a Madonna and Child, also created by Fréour, and a 17th-century crucifix. The connection to Fréour links the façade and interior; the contrast in age between the chapel and the older crucifix offers a distinct point of interest for art and architecture enthusiasts.

The abandoned salt marshes of Quimiac offer a different perspective: under a Natura 2000 agreement covering 2016–2020, they were restored to benefit biodiversity. This initiative draws attention to landscape and nature conservation, making it a different focus from water sports, cycling or chapel art.

Seasonal horse-drawn carriage rides

The municipal programme for 2026 provided for one-hour horse-drawn carriage rides, with several departures throughout the day, from 6 April to 31 August; one route went through Quimiac and to the beaches. This period has ended. If a carriage ride is important to a future trip, check whether one is scheduled for your dates.
