Between its fishing and leisure boat harbor, coastal paths and regional mussels, La Plaine-Sur-Mer reveals several sides of the CĂ´te de Jade. The town brings together maritime attractions, landscapes and seasonal culture: at Port de la Gravette, the harbor and PĂŞcheries shape the scene, while walking and cycling routes, low-tide fishing, summer concerts and local cuisine offer other highlights. As you plan your trip, consider which of these aspects interests you most.
Harbor and coastal landscape
Port de la Gravette is both a fishing harbor and a leisure boat harbor. Numerous Pêcheries line the coast around it along the Côte de Jade. Fishing, leisure boats and Pêcheries are therefore all part of the coastal scenery around the harbor. On the coastal path beyond the harbor stands the Bouée Euler, a maritime signal beacon that attracts walkers. As a maritime landmark, it offers a different point of interest from the harbor’s functions.
Pointe de la Pierre offers another landscape experience: this wild, protected spot looks out over the Loire estuary. The harbor, signal beacon and viewpoint each offer a different perspective if you are interested in the town’s maritime and landscape attractions.
Walking, cycling and shore fishing
The GR® 8 long-distance hiking trail passes through La Plaine-Sur-Mer. The Vélodyssée, the major Atlantic cycling route, also runs through the town. This gives you a choice of different types of routes: the GR® 8 is a long-distance hiking trail, while the Vélodyssée is a cycling route. If you are planning your trip around one of these activities, you can use this distinction to guide your choice.
Port Giraud is associated with shore fishing, which is popular at low tide. If this activity appeals to you, the tide is the practical point to keep in mind: shore fishing is specifically linked to low tide. Pêcherie N°13 de la Govogne offers another option. It can be rented for fishing with a carrelet net with family or friends. For a specific date, it is advisable to ask about availability.
Garden and summer concerts
Jardin des Lakas is in the center of La Plaine-Sur-Mer. Bocage hedgerows, a row of century-old ash trees and old fruit trees surround the garden. These landscape features give this central spot a different character from the harbor and coastal landmarks.
Jardin des Lakas also hosts the Mercredis aux Lakas concert series, held every Wednesday evening in July and August. If you are planning a stay during these months, you can keep Wednesday evening in mind as a possible cultural outing.
La Plainaise: mussels from the town
La Plainaise refers to bouchot mussels produced in La Plaine-Sur-Mer. You can try them at restaurants in the area or at mussel festivals organized in summer by individual CĂ´te de Jade associations. The mussels themselves are directly associated with the town, while the festivals are part of the wider CĂ´te de Jade area. In this way, local cuisine connects a local product with a summer highlight of the coastal region.
