In Gétigné, local history, riverside landscapes and architecture come together. The three walking routes range from about 30 minutes to around three and a half hours. This lets you plan your day around your preferred route length and decide whether to focus on the town centre, a longer hike or the landscape along the Moine.

On foot: from a town-centre walk to a riverside route

At 2.02 kilometres and about 30 minutes, the historic walking tour of Gétigné is the shortest of the routes described. It starts at the town hall and takes you through streets and lanes. Anecdotes, remains and buildings bring the local heritage to life; a map with explanations accompanies the walk. This makes it quite different from the longer routes, which allow more time to enjoy the landscape.

The Circuit du Vieux Chemin Royal is 10 kilometres long, marked in yellow and takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes. The route starts at the Pont Ligneau car park, follows the Sèvre nantaise and passes through fields and meadows. It is open year-round; nevertheless, check the condition of the route and access before setting out. The stated walking time is a guide for planning.

For a longer loop, the Circuit de la Sèvre à la Moine covers 13.8 kilometres through Clisson and Gétigné. This moderately difficult hike takes about 3 hours and 30 minutes. In Gétigné, it crosses the countryside to the banks of the Moine and follows natural, shaded paths. Compared with the historic town-centre walk, it requires considerably more time; the moderate difficulty rating applies to this route.

Riverside landscapes, nature and mills

The Garenne de la Moine is a 7-hectare natural area on the Moine, where the river flows into the Sèvre. A path runs alongside riverbanks, meadows and wooded areas. The site is open to the public for independent visits during the day. Check access again before travelling.

Le Moulin-Neuf combines a long history of milling with its present-day role as a natural area. It is located in a former weavers' village; the fulling mill has a history spanning more than 300 years. Today, you can take a walk there and cross the weir footbridge by jumping from rock to rock. Conditions underfoot may vary after rain.

At Terbin, the canoe and kayak club offers outings where you can discover the mills of Gétigné from the water. Availability and booking arrangements may change; check them before planning your trip. This offers a different perspective on the mills from the paths on land.

Domaine de la Garenne Lemot and architectural history

The Domaine de la Garenne Lemot is a listed historic monument. The sculptor François-Frédéric Lemot designed and created the estate in the early 19th century. The 13-hectare park lies on the banks of the Sèvre nantaise and combines Italian-inspired architecture with a Tuscan house, a neoclassical villa and ornamental features. These include statues, a grotto, a column and a tomb.

The Villa Lemot hosts temporary exhibitions on artistic, architectural and landscape design, including displays featuring collections from the Musée Dobrée in Nantes. The exhibition programme may change. The Gardener's Cottage houses a visitor centre, a gift shop and an interpretation area that opened in 2019. Chronological displays, images and interactive features explore the estate and the people who shaped it. Admission is free and the facilities are open to everyone; detailed opening hours may change.

The religious buildings also reflect different periods of construction. The Church of Sainte-Radegonde was rebuilt in the Gothic style between 1867 and 1870 and has a squat, square bell tower. Construction of the Chapel of Sainte-Anne began in 1906; the first Mass was celebrated there in 1908. These dates give each building its own historical context.
