Montmain combines designed garden spaces, church history and wooded landscapes. When choosing your stay, you can consider which focus is important to you: the two parts of the Jardins d’Angélique, the architectural history of Saint-Nicolas or the circular hike “Autour de Montmain”. If you are looking for a holiday rental, you can base your stay around one of these highlights.
The Jardins d’Angélique
The Jardins d’Angélique in Montmain are listed as a Jardin remarquable. The grounds are next to a manor house from the 18th century and are divided into two areas. The English garden offers a labyrinth of paths and hidden corners around benches or a water feature. The second area is a formal white garden, which invites you to rest and dream. The two parts set different accents: on winding paths and hidden corners on the one hand, and on formal design and the white character on the other.
Forest and Landscape
Montmain covers 604 hectares, 29 ares and 60 centiares, a large part of which is still forested. The ZNIEFF Bois du Fond de Corron includes areas in the communes of Bois-d'Ennebourg, Montmain and Saint-Aubin-Épinay. In the Bois du Fond de Corron, on the territory of Montmain and Bois-d'Ennebourg, there are several wooded areas on steep to very steep slopes. In these wooded habitats, among others, squirrels, wild boar and deer have been observed. The rainwater from Montmain flows through the Bois des Chartreux in the south and the Côte aux Prêtres in the north towards the valley of the Aubette (Epinay and Saint Aubin Epinay).
The Circular Hike “Autour de Montmain”
The circular hike “Autour de Montmain” is an easy 7.74-kilometre walk and returns to the starting point. It begins in front of the Salle Georges Brassens in the Rue du Cèdre. The route leads through the Bois des Chartreux; 50 metres after the Route de Lyons, it turns onto the white-and-red marked GR®25. On the way back, it passes the church of Saint Nicolas and the cemetery. The average duration is 2 hours and 30 minutes. With this average duration, the loop can be planned as a separate hiking section. Before you start, check the trail conditions and the current markings on site.
The Church of Saint-Nicolas
The church of Saint-Nicolas dates from the 17th century. In the 18th and 19th centuries, it was extensively restored; the sacristy was completed in 1849. Until the middle of the 19th century, it was a vicarial chapel of Saint Pierre de Franqueville. The historic patronage over the church belonged to the Priory of Beaulieu in Rouen. Thus, the church brings together a long architectural history and its former ecclesiastical role.
