Caudebec-en-Caux can be explored through two themes closely connected to the town: heritage and the Seine. MuséoSeine spans the period from antiquity to the present day; historic buildings, views of the river’s meanders and walks along the quays offer further highlights. You can tailor your stay to whether you are most interested in architecture, river landscapes or the different layers of the town’s history.

Heritage from Several Eras

MuséoSeine is an interactive museum about the Seine, the people who live along it and its landscapes. Its perspective spans the period from antiquity to the present day. The river thus represents both a natural environment and human history; the theme extends beyond a single building.

The Church of Notre-Dame de l’Assomption is one of the masterpieces of Flamboyant Gothic architecture. Its current form was created mainly in the 15th and 16th centuries; it has been listed as a historic monument since 1840. The Maison des Templiers offers an older point of reference: it dates from the 13th century and is the oldest building in the town. Comparing them reveals different layers of architectural history rather than defining Caudebec-en-Caux by just one era.

The heritage of post-war reconstruction also reveals an architectural contrast: conservative, traditional architecture stands alongside innovative forms that emerged in the years after the Liberation. The Maison des Templiers is also home to the “Les Artisans d’Art des Templiers” collective, which regularly offers introductory arts and crafts workshops. As workshop dates may vary, it is best to check in advance whether one falls during your travel dates.

The Monument du Latham 47 commemorates five men who lost their lives in 1928 during a rescue mission in the Arctic. Alongside the history of the town’s architecture, it commemorates another chapter in local history: an expedition whose setting lay far beyond the Seine.

Observing the Seine and Nature

From the Rétival viewpoint above Caudebec-en-Caux, you can see the Seine, its meanders and the Brotonne Bridge. In the Marais de Caudebec-en-Caux, you can walk along wooden boardwalks, follow the interpretive signs and head to an observation point to watch wildlife. These two natural viewpoints offer different perspectives: from Rétival, the focus is on the river’s course and the bridge; in the Marais, it is on observing wildlife along the boardwalks and signs.

The quays also invite you to take walks along the Seine. Cruise boats stop in Caudebec-en-Caux. If such a stop is important to your plans, check the schedule.

Routes and Planning

The Circuit du Patrimoine de Caudebec-en-Caux has nine stops and is 1.64 km long; its renovation was inaugurated in July 2026. The circuit focuses on local heritage. La Seine à Vélo offers a different way to explore: near Caudebec-en-Caux, the route follows a former railway line converted into a greenway and connects the town with Barentin. This means there is both a series of heritage stops and a cycling route connecting to Barentin, to suit different travel plans.

If you plan to use La Seine à Vélo, check current route conditions before setting off. This will help you choose between local history, river landscapes and a cycling route connecting to Barentin based on the themes you would like to explore during your stay.
