The medieval Site Médiéval de Blainville-Crevon, the Collegiate Church of Saint Michael and La Sirène offer different cultural perspectives: from a long succession of castles to church architecture, paintings and literature. Another activity is the Circuit du Crevon, an easy 9.8-kilometre circular walking route. This allows you to plan your trip around history, art or exercise.

Medieval architectural history in the Crevon Valley

The Site Médiéval de Blainville-Crevon lies in the green Crevon Valley. Its medieval grounds include an 11th-century motte, on which five successive castles were built between the 12th and 18th centuries. The sequence is important for understanding the site: the motte forms the older core, while the castles belong to later construction phases. The site thus represents development over several centuries, not just a single building with one date of origin.

The Collegiate Church of Saint Michael

The Collegiate Church of Saint Michael was built in 1488 by Jean d’Estouteville, Lord of Torcy and Blainville, to house a chapter of twelve canons. Its masonry is made of sandstone and flint. The transept contains a life-size statue of the Archangel Michael dating from the late 15th century. The two dates refer to different things: 1488 is the year the church was built, while the late 15th century is when the statue was made.

Art and literature at La Sirène

La Sirène preserves around 250 paintings and drawings left by Anatole Jakovsky. Most of the works belong to naïve art; art brut and folk art are also represented. La Sirène also has a significant library devoted to art and literature. The combination of paintings, drawings and a library offers a different focus from the architectural history of the Site and the Collegiate Church: here, the emphasis is on works of art, artistic movements and literature.

Archéo Jazz at the Site Médiéval

Archéo Jazz is an international cultural event held every year in the heart of the Site Médiéval de Blainville-Crevon. The festival was created to fund excavations and restoration work. If you are planning your trip around Archéo Jazz, check the dates for your chosen year before arranging your stay.

Guided tours and accessibility

Private guided tours of the Site Médiéval de Blainville-Crevon are available on request; if you would like a tour, make your request before your visit. The medieval grounds are accessible to people with reduced mobility, and a reserved parking space is available at the entrance.

The Circuit du Crevon as a walking option

The Circuit du Crevon is an easy 9.8-kilometre circular walking route. For a choice between culture and exercise, it offers a distinct walking focus alongside the motte, Collegiate Church and art. Its length, difficulty level and circular format provide specific points of reference when choosing this activity. This makes the walk clearly different from a stay focused on architectural history and art.
