Saint-Cyr-la-Rosière can be explored through its architectural history and heritage, as well as through trails across the countryside. The Église Saint-Cyr et Sainte-Julitte, the Chapelle de Clémencé and the Prieuré de Sainte-Gauburge offer different points of historical interest. There is also a museum focusing on the region and hiking trails that lead either to a dolmen or through the countryside of the rural Perche.

Architectural history and protected buildings

The Église Saint-Cyr et Sainte-Julitte was probably built towards the end of the 12th century or at the beginning of the 13th century. Its choir dates from the 15th century, and the southern transept chapel from the 16th century. Its designation as a historic monument is also differentiated: by decree dated 30 March 1978, the west portal was classified, while the rest of the church was listed under the same decree. This makes it possible to distinguish different building phases and protection statuses in a single building.

Another specific feature of the church is the stone statue identified as “Sainte Gauburge?” It is located where the choir meets the north transept, dates from the 16th century and was listed as a protected object in 1986. Its precise location and date place it within the history of the church interior.

The Chapelle de Clémencé is a chapel dating from the 14th century and was listed as a historic monument by decree dated 14 November 1977. Its layout and furnishings differ considerably from a simple, single-nave space: it has four bays, a flat-ended choir and a single-nave body. Its polygonal wooden vault is decorated with geometric motifs. Visitors interested in architecture will find several tangible features here that help describe the chapel’s structure.

The Prieuré de Sainte-Gauburge

The history of the Benedictine priory begins in 1006. By decree dated 28 April 1980, the church, priory house and convent building were classified as historic monuments. The Prieuré features richly decorated chimneys, a stair tower and rooms dating from the 13th century. Six panels explain the history of the site. Together, these details offer a glimpse of different aspects of the priory: its historical beginnings, its architectural features and the interpretation of its history.

Regional culture and planning your visit

The Écomusée du Perche focuses on the tangible and intangible heritage of the Perche. It collects, preserves, researches and presents this heritage to the public. This regional cultural perspective complements the specific churches, chapels and priory buildings mentioned above. One ticket provides admission to both the Écomusée du Perche and the Prieuré de Sainte-Gauburge. Check the ticket details before your trip.

Hiking trails with different highlights

The La Pierre Procureuse hiking trail in Saint-Cyr-la-Rosière leads to a dolmen. According to legend, it was built around 3000 BC. This date comes from the legend and should be understood as such. Another trail, La Croix de Lognonnet, starts at the renovated church in the village centre and follows paths through the countryside of the rural Perche. The two trails therefore offer different highlights: one has a destination with a legendary past, while the other starts at the church and takes in the surrounding landscape. You can choose between them according to your interest in heritage or the countryside.

A regional connection to nature

Saint-Cyr-la-Rosière is one of the 25 communes within the Black Bee Conservatory’s protected area. This connection adds a regional nature theme to the architectural and monument history. Along with the trails through the rural Perche, it offers another perspective on the area: one that encompasses the landscape and protected area as well as individual historic buildings.
