The Jambée runs through Longny-au-Perche; a tall waterfall can be seen on Rue du Château. The water also powers the wheel of the castle’s former mill. The riverside landscape and the history of the buildings are two tangible themes for a getaway.

Architectural history from the church to the villa

The Église Saint-Martin was built in the 15th century and is listed as a historic monument. Its tower dates from the 16th century. Details include a sundial with a meridian line and a carved equestrian figure of Saint Martin. The church thus brings together two periods of construction, complemented by distinctive architectural and decorative features.

The Chapelle Notre-Dame de Pitié also dates from the 16th century; it was built for the Confrérie de Charité, is listed as a historic monument, and represents the pinnacle of Percheron Renaissance architecture. In contrast to the Église, whose description brings together its construction date, tower, and furnishings, the chapel is notable above all for its Renaissance character.

Another story connected with the town is that of Villa Jumeau, also known as Château Jumeau: Pierre-François Jumeau (1811–1895) built it in 1866; his family made porcelain-headed dolls. The villa’s grounds are laid out as a public garden and contain an icehouse. Alongside the religious buildings, this adds the story of a family that made porcelain-headed dolls.

Walking, a cycling loop, and a scenic drive

The “La Brisardière” walking route starts at Place de l’Hôtel de Ville, is 3.5 kilometres long, and takes one hour. It offers a very beautiful view of the village and its surroundings. The “Les environs de Longny” cycling loop also starts at Place de l’Hôtel de Ville. It is 45.2 kilometres long and rated difficult. This lets you compare a one-hour walk with a much longer cycle ride rated difficult; both start at the same square.

Another option is the “Châteaux et étangs” scenic drive, which starts in Longny-au-Perche and is 82 kilometres long. Check the current printed route guide before setting out. It is also worth checking the latest route information before starting a walk or cycle ride, as route details or difficulty ratings can change.

At Les chèvres de la Hutte in La Hutte, Longny-au-Perche, you can watch the goats being milked at 5 p.m. Ask in advance about visitor arrangements and seasonal opening times. The farm makes artisan organic raw-milk goat’s cheese, including crottins, logs, and faisselles, and sells it directly from the farm. Before visiting, also check whether the farm shop will be open and which products are available.
