The park of the Château de la Mésangère was laid out from around 1663, based on plans attributed to Le Nôtre. This offers a concise introduction to Bosguérard-de-Marcouville: heritage can be seen here in the grounds and architectural features of an estate, but also in a church, a protected tree, and a memorial site. The guided tours at La Chèvre Rit complement these historical themes with an insight into goat farming.

Château de la Mésangère and its park

The Château de la Mésangère is in Bosguérard-de-Marcouville; the estate also extends into the commune of Saint-Pierre-du-Bosguérard. The entire La Mésangère estate was classified as a historic monument on 5 November 2015. The protected site includes the park, the statues and sculptures, and all the architectural features. The designation therefore applies to an ensemble, not just a single building.

The château offers a self-guided walking tour of about 1 km. Seasonal visiting arrangements may change, so check the information for your planned date in advance.

Church and Chêne à la Vierge

The Église Saint-Denis is in the hamlet of Saint-Denis du Bosguérard and dates from the 18th century. Alongside the extensive park, this brings a single historic site within the commune into focus. The park and church offer different ways to explore local history: one is a landscaped outdoor setting, the other a church in the hamlet.

The Chêne à la Vierge reveals another sequence in time: the tree was planted in the 17th century and has been listed as a protected site since 16 October 1934. The planting date and the listing date are two different milestones—one points to the tree’s history, the other to its protected status.

Memorial site in Bois Givard

The memorial site in Bois Givard commemorates the deaths of seven Canadians during the Liberation on 26 August 1944. A memorial stele to the Canadian victims stands there within the commune. This adds a clearly dated link to the period of the Liberation to the older traces represented by the park, church, and tree. Visitors wishing to include local memorial sites in their trip can explore Bois Givard as a separate point of interest.

La Chèvre Rit: guided tours and farm shop

La Chèvre Rit offers guided tours of its educational farm. During these visits, guests can see goats up close, learn more about goat farming, and take part in interactive activities. Unlike the historic sites, the focus here is on animals and learning about their care. The visits are guided; check the current visiting arrangements in advance, as they may change.

The La Chèvre Rit farm shop sells goat’s cheese, dairy products, cider, apple juice, apple vinegar, and beef. The availability of individual products may vary.
