Château history, landscaped gardens, wetlands and cycling offer a range of themes to explore in Conchil-le-Temple. If you’re looking for a hotel in Conchil-Le-Temple, you can consider whether culture, nature watching or a signposted cycling route should shape your stay. The attractions also differ in whether you want to focus on architectural history, gardens or waterside landscapes.

Château History and Garden Design

The Château du Pas d’Authie was listed as a Monument historique on 19 April 2006. The protected elements include the façades and roofs, including the belvedere and entrance steps, the entrance hall, and the large salon and dining room with their ground-floor furnishings. The outbuildings, the surrounding park with its enclosures, and the dovecote in the park are also included. The château was built for Félix Moullart de Torcy on the site of a 17th-century estate with a manor house.

The Jardins du château d’Authie combine an English garden with a vegetable garden, or French garden. Numerous topiary features and a wide variety of trees add to the design; some of the trees were planted in the 17th century. The gardens bring together different styles, while the old trees offer another link to the past.

The Templar commandery of Maison du Temple-les-Waben is also part of the area’s history: it was established in Conchil in the 14th century. The construction phases of Église Notre-Dame-de-la-Nativité span three centuries. The choir dates from the 16th century, the nave from the 18th century, and the bell tower from the 19th century. These parts reveal how the church developed over time, rather than belonging to a single construction phase.

Wetlands and Walks

La Foraine d’Authie is a former gravel quarry with bodies of water, used for walking and nature watching. At the ponds, you can walk along small footbridges. Sailing is also among the site’s well-known recreational activities; availability may vary by season.

The ZNIEFF Anciennes ballastières de Conchil-le-temple is a type 1 continental natural area that extends across Waben and Conchil-le-Temple. Its landscape features include bodies of water created by gravel extraction, wet meadows, water-filled ditches and ponds. The area is also home to one of only two regional populations of the aquatic plant Limosella aquatica. This rare plant is a particular highlight for nature watching there.

Cycling and Cultural Activities

La Madelon is a cycling route that passes through Conchil-le-Temple. The signposted route is rated easy, is 33 kilometres long and has an average duration of 2 hours and 45 minutes. Check the route details before setting out. The options offer a practical contrast for planning: at the ponds, the focus is on walking along small footbridges, while La Madelon is a longer cycling route with a stated duration.

The Médiathèque de Conchil-le-Temple offers free use of its collections on site. It also regularly hosts cultural events for all age groups, some of which require advance registration. As facilities and programmes may change, check the latest information if you’re interested and confirm whether registration is required for an event.
