Bondues can be explored through several clearly distinct highlights: the Musée de la Résistance focuses on the history of the Resistance, the Boucle des Deux Domaines leads to named estates and a chapel, and Golf de Bondues offers two courses with distinct characteristics. The options below offer different experiences—from a specific historical subject to a route or a comparison of two golf courses.

Resistance history at the fort

The Musée de la Résistance de Bondues is located in the remains of Fort de Bondues. It presents the history of the Resistance in Nord-Pas-de-Calais during the German occupation. The historical connection is also precisely dated: from 17 March 1943 to 1 May 1944, 68 members of the Resistance were shot at Fort de Bondues. The combination of the fort, regional Resistance history and a specifically named period gives the site a clear cultural and historical focus. If you are planning your trip around a historical subject, the defining feature here is the connection between the site and the Resistance in the region.

The Boucle des Deux Domaines

The Boucle des Deux Domaines offers a different perspective on Bondues. It starts at the car park of Ferme de l'Hôtel, 37 avenue de Wambrechies in Bondues. From there, it passes through part of the historic Domaine de La Vigne, the new Domaine des « Belles Fermes » and the « Diamants Blancs », a senior living residence. The route connects the named places via country lanes and well-known avenues in Bondues. At the end of the route stands the Chapelle du Vœu, a chapel made of grey Tournai stone dating from 1915. The estates, avenues and a specific historic building are thus among the route’s described points of interest. Ferme de l'Hôtel is also a good place to observe biodiversity. The starting point and address give you a specific landmark, while the other named places shape the character of the Boucle.

Two golf courses with different features

Golf de Bondues covers just under 120 hectares and has two 18-hole courses. The Trent-Jones course comprises nine holes by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and nine more, completed by his son several years later. The Hawtree course, by contrast, is distinguished above all by its long, narrow and well-protected layout, as well as large greens defended by bunkers. If golf is an important factor in your choice, you can distinguish between the courses using these details: the Trent-Jones course is defined by the layout and authorship of its holes, while the Hawtree course is characterised by the described shape of the course and the design of its greens.

Getting to the Musée de la Résistance

The Musée de la Résistance de Bondues can be reached by bus routes LIANE 91 and 86; both serve the Fort de Bondues or La Quenouille stops. Route 89 (Bondues/Wambrechies-Leers) stops at Centre or Eglise, from where it is a ten-minute walk. Check routes and stops before travelling so you can plan your journey accordingly.

More leisure activities

Bondues’ leisure aerodrome has several free-to-access courses for all levels. This provides another leisure option alongside the history of the Resistance, the route and golf.
