A route through the historic centre, a Wednesday evening market and views stretching as far as the Pyrenees reveal different sides of Puylaurens. Explore its culture on walking tours, at a museum and through historic buildings; outdoors, the focus is on a lake, woodland activities, and an offering centred on bees and biodiversity. To help choose where to stay, start by deciding whether you’re mainly interested in local history, landscapes, regional produce or active experiences.

History in the town centre

The Circuit découverte du centre historique leads you into the heart of the historic town. Le Fil de Marianne is a free tourist trail through the town centre that introduces local history through graffiti, portraits, posters, cartoons and texts. This mix of visual and written elements offers different ways to tell the story of the past.

The Musée Marianne focuses on a different theme: it tells the story of France through the symbols and values of the Republic. This lets you explore local history on the trail and national history at the museum from different perspectives. The Notre Dame du Lac church and the adjoining market hall are also among Puylaurens’s sights.

Another historic connection to Marianne comes from the life of Guillaume Lavabre. The shoemaker and troubadour, who was from Puylaurens, wrote a revolutionary song in early October in which he called the Republic Marianne.

The Protestant temple remains active. It can only be visited as part of guided tours organised by the tourist office. Check the current tour schedule before visiting.

Market and regional produce

For 2026, the Goût de Cocagne market is listed every Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. It takes place beneath the church market hall in Puylaurens, where local farmers and producers sell their goods directly. A Wednesday evening visit therefore combines a market with a look at an important site in the town centre. If you plan to visit the market in a later year, check the dates in effect then.

Views, a lake and outdoor activities

From Puylaurens, you can enjoy views over the Lauragais plain, the Montagne Noire and the Pyrenees. The landscape offers a different focus from the historic themes of the town centre.

At Lac de la Nouvelle, you’ll find a peaceful place to go for a walk; fishing is also possible there. The same lake therefore offers two different activities to choose from: a walk in peaceful surroundings or some time fishing. Both options are at Lac de la Nouvelle.

Nat’Venture offers tree climbing, zip lines and fun adventure courses in a woodland setting. There are 15 courses in total, suitable for children and adults. The venue brings several types of activity together in one place and may appeal to families or groups looking to spend time outdoors together.

Rayons de Soleil focuses on bees and biodiversity. Its immersive, fun and educational visits are available by reservation. This is a different way to learn about nature than taking a walk by the lake or enjoying the woodland activities.

Choose what to focus on during your stay

The attractions also differ in their visiting arrangements: the market is listed for Wednesday evenings in 2026, the temple can only be visited on organised guided tours, and Rayons de Soleil requires a reservation. Take these details into account first when planning your time in Puylaurens. Then you can focus more on local history, landscapes, the lake or outdoor activities.
