Since 1991, the Giroussens pottery market has taken place every spring. This gives a stay a clear seasonal focal point: if you would like to travel specifically for the market, check the exact event dates and plan your trip for spring. The town’s ceramic identity is a natural fit: the Centre Céramique Contemporaine de Giroussens is a museum and gallery for contemporary ceramics.

Ceramics at the museum and in classes

The Centre holds workshops and events where visitors can meet artists. The Ateliers du Couvent offer adults and children classes in pottery, wheel throwing and modelling. The offerings vary by format: the Centre focuses on its museum, gallery, workshops and meetings with artists, while the Ateliers offer classes in specific craft techniques. You can discover ceramics as a subject for exhibitions and encounters, or take an interest in a class devoted to a particular technique.

Church and views over the valley

The Church of Saint-Salvy is a protected historic monument and is used for worship. It is occasionally open to the public for visits. If you plan to visit the interior, check access locally; visits are not regularly available. Both its protected status and its religious use are part of the church’s character.

A viewpoint on the town hall square in the centre of Giroussens offers wide-ranging views over the Agout Valley. It draws your attention to the landscape and is a separate place to visit alongside the town’s cultural attractions.

Gardens or a circular trail

The Jardins des Martels offer a botanical experience in a 35,000 m² park containing a total of 3,000 plant species. Areas include a variety of gardens, exotic and aquatic greenhouses, a viewpoint, a banana plantation and a mini-farm. The size and number of species give an impression of the site’s scale and diversity. The entire Jardins can be explored with a pushchair, a practical detail for planning your visit.

The choice between a garden visit and a hike comes down to two distinct experiences: the Jardins are a park with several areas, while the Boucle des potiers is a circular route with a set distance and duration. You can shape the nature-focused part of your stay around plants and greenhouses or a trail through woodland.

As of 20 August 2026, the Boucle des potiers is an easy, 6.4-kilometre circular trail, with a stated duration of two hours. It starts and ends at Les Communaux, the former football pitch in Giroussens. The shaded route through the Giroussens forest passes through oak woods and clearings and along streams. Check current trail conditions before setting out.
