Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val is a medieval town in the heart of the Gorges de l’Aveyron. Half-timbered houses, vaulted passageways and historic buildings shape a well-preserved yet lively townscape. Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val is easy to reach by car from larger neighbouring towns. The village can be explored entirely on foot.

Architecture and collections

The Maison Romane was built in 1125 and is a rare example of Romanesque civil architecture in France. The building houses a museum; its architecture and exceptional sculptures are themselves part of the collections. Museum operations have remained limited since 2016. Check current visiting arrangements before your visit.

The Église Saint-Antonin dates from the 13th century. Its distinctive features include the cloister and exceptional wooden sculptures. Compared with the Maison Romane, the church has a different architectural focus. Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val is also home to numerous craftspeople.

The archaeological collections of the Musée de Préhistoire span periods from the Palaeolithic to the Iron Age. Check public access to this museum separately before your visit.

Sunday morning at the market

The Sunday market takes place year-round every Sunday morning from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm. It offers local produce, crafts, artists and other market stalls. Check the current schedule before travelling; the offering may change.

Hiking, via ferrata and canoeing

The PR 4 Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val–Sainte-Sabine hiking trail passes through woodland, over the heathland of the Causse and alongside cultivated or wooded areas of the Aveyron. From Roc d’Anglars, the same trail offers sweeping views of Saint-Antonin and the Gorges de l’Aveyron.

The Via ferrata is also located on the cliffs of Roc d’Anglars. After an approach walk, the route follows an ascending traverse. Several route options suit different ability levels; the difficulty depends on the option chosen. Access may be restricted during birds of prey nesting seasons. Check the details with the operator before taking part.

Two- to four-day canoe trips on the Aveyron, with overnight stays in tents, are offered from Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val. There is also a 10-kilometre canoe and kayak route between Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val and Cazals. The information uses different planning measures: one trip is described by its duration, the other by its distance. Check availability with the provider in advance.

Cave and outdoor swimming pool

The Grotte du Bosc is located in Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val, in the Gorges de l’Aveyron. Its features include stalactite and stalagmite formations and animal species that live there. The municipal outdoor swimming pool has heated water, a large and a small pool, and a paddling pool. Check seasonal opening arrangements before your visit.

Planning accommodation and the length of your stay

The time frames differ: the market is limited to Sunday mornings, while the canoe trips last two to four days and include overnight stays in tents. When searching for a holiday rental, this distinction can help you work out how many nights to plan. Consider whether to focus your stay on local culture and the market, or plan the multi-day canoe trip as a separate part of your journey.
