Explore Sousceyrac through three distinct themes: the history of the fortified town, the variety of trees at the Arboretum du Quercy au Monde, and routes ranging from treasure hunts to mountain biking trails. The different formats and time estimates are particularly helpful when planning: some activities take around an hour and a half, while others specify a distance or describe the route. This lets you decide whether to focus your stay on culture, a themed visit to the park, or a tour.

Historic town and visible traces

The former feudal town of Sousceyrac was surrounded by fortified walls and a wide moat. The historic entrance was through the two fortified gates of Notre-Dame and Saint-Antoine. The houses on Rue du Carreyrat offer another visible link to the town’s history: houses dating from the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries can still be seen there. The fortifications and preserved houses point to different periods—the town’s earlier layout and buildings that remain visible today.

Sousceyrac’s heritage also includes the Church of Saint Martin and the significant Ursuline convent building. Together with Rue du Carreyrat, these places provide a tangible setting for a culturally focused stay. You can explore the historic themes through their different highlights: the former town fortifications, the houses with their dates, and the two notable cultural buildings.

Tree diversity at the arboretum

The Arboretum du Quercy au Monde offers a different perspective: it is a public, landscaped park. Several dozen tree species from all five continents grow there, and the collection can continue to develop. Four themed trails offer a structured way to explore the park and take around an hour and a half. This visit differs from the town’s historic sites: the focus here is on a landscaped park and the diversity of its trees.

Circular trails in different formats

The Lac des Pescofis circular trail combines a distance of 3.1 kilometres with a treasure hunt that takes around 1.5 hours. The Lac Sauvage circular trail is slightly longer at 3.3 kilometres and is designed as a guided walk lasting around 1.5 hours. The time estimates are similar, but the experiences differ considerably: the Pescofis trail includes a treasure hunt, while Lac Sauvage is described as a guided walk. The arboretum’s four themed trails also take around an hour and a half, but have a different focus from these two circular trails.

For a longer stated distance, the Le Cayla circular trail is another option. The municipality’s visitor booklet from April 2026 gives a starting point in Sousceyrac and a length of 9 kilometres. Compared with the 3.1- and 3.3-kilometre Lac trails, this is a considerably longer route. The three options can therefore be distinguished by distance, time estimate and format, without assuming that activities are similar just because they take a similar amount of time.

Mountain biking routes and landscapes

Les Jardins du Ségala is a 25-kilometre mountain biking loop starting in Sousceyrac-en-Quercy. The route passes through a preserved landscape and follows a scenic hairpin descent to the Cayla stream. As route details can change, it is advisable to check the information before setting out.

The Les Hauts de Sousceyrac trail can also be ridden by mountain bike. It passes streams, through woodland and by remote hamlets. The two options therefore differ in the details described: Les Jardins du Ségala is identified as a loop, with a stated distance and descent; Les Hauts de Sousceyrac is characterised by streams, woodland and hamlets. Trail conditions can change, so check the information before your ride here too.
