Vers offers several distinct perspectives: cascades in the village, a rock refuge above the village, historic structures and routes through the valley and across the limestone plateau. If you’re looking for a hotel in Vers, you can plan your trip around your main interests: village history, scenery, cycling or seasonal activities.

Stream, rock and layers of history

In the village, the Vers stream forms small cascades near former mills and riverside paths, flowing over the limestone. This landscape sits alongside historic structures and views of the Lot and Vers valleys.

Above the village stands the medieval Château des Anglais, a refuge built into the cliff face. It is not open to visitors, but can be viewed from the village or from the banks of the Lot. So if you include it in your travel plans, make time to view it from these spots rather than planning a visit inside.

The Gallo-Roman aqueduct near Vers supplied Cahors with water from the 1st to the 5th century. Notable surviving remains overlook the Lot and Vers valleys; in 1953, they were added to the supplementary list of historic monuments. The structure therefore offers a chance to consider its ancient function and its later listing as distinct layers of history.

The Tour des Chartreux in Vers is part of a 14th-century residence. Two surviving towers have cross-shaped loopholes with double crossbars. Its architectural details offer a different perspective from the aqueduct’s large-scale remains: here, the focus is on individual features of a medieval residence.

Choose routes by interest

The Circuit du village de Vers loop starts at the town hall and is designed to help you discover the village’s distinctive features. It focuses on the village itself, while other routes highlight the valley, the plateau or several valleys.

The À Vercinge(to)ry loop follows the green, unspoilt Vers valley across the limestone plateau and offers panoramic views of Saint-Géry and the Lot valley. The valley, plateau and views define the character of this route.

Via Causs'mos is an artistic circuit through the three valleys of Vers, Lot and Célé, with Vers as its first point of interest. The routes therefore offer different focuses: the village’s distinctive features on the Circuit, valley and plateau panoramas on À Vercinge(to)ry, and art and three valleys on Via Causs'mos.

Vers also lies on the long-distance cycle routes V86 Vallée du Lot à vélo and V87 La Vagabonde. However, no cycling loop starts in the village. If you’re planning to cycle, distinguish between the long-distance routes and a loop starting in the village. Check route signage and conditions before setting out.

Seasonal tours and workshops

Les jardins du Mas de Greil regularly offer visitor tours and workshops between mid-March and mid-October. One activity involves discovering and tasting around twenty wild edible plants each season. Other workshops cover growing and processing Quercy saffron, as well as snail farming in educational workshops.

These visits are available only during a specific season. If a workshop or tour is important to your trip, check dates and current availability in advance. This will help you plan your stay around the activities you have in mind without overlooking the seasonal schedule.
