Labège brings together several distinct cultural themes: contemporary art, the history of pigments and pastel, a science and literature festival, and a weekly market. These offerings provide different focal points for planning your visit: exhibitions and public events, hands-on work with colours, or a market visit. You can consider which theme you would like to shape your stay in particular, without combining the different offerings into a fixed itinerary.

Maison Salvan and Artothèque

Run by the town of Labège, Maison Salvan is a contemporary art centre and an artists’ residency. Its particular focus is visual art. Maison Salvan presents exhibitions and organises public conferences, performances and concerts. Its programme therefore includes not only viewing artworks but also talks and performances.

Another connection to art is the Artothèque Archipel location at La Passerelle – Médiathèque de Labège. It comprises around forty works from the collection of Artothèque Maison Salvan – Ville de Labège. Unlike Maison Salvan’s exhibition and events programme, this location focuses on a collection; its size is given as around forty works.

Pastel history and hands-on colour-making

The Musée du Pastel is devoted to the history of pigments and pastel in south-western France. The workshops give visitors the opportunity to handle pigments and create their own shades. This brings historical context together with hands-on work with colour: pigments are not only a subject of interpretation but also a material for visitors’ own creative work.

The museum’s presentation also covers the artisanal processing of the pastel plant into precious powder, a practice described as dating back to the 17th century. This historical focus sets the museum apart from the contemporary art of Maison Salvan. If you are interested in colour-making or craftsmanship, the history of pastel offers a distinct way to explore Labège’s cultural offering.

Scientilivre and the Labège-Village market

Scientilivre is an annual science and literature festival organised by Délires d’encre for children and adults. It takes place every year at the Centre des Congrès Diagora Labège. The programme includes workshops, conferences and discussions with authors. The festival thus combines hands-on activities with opportunities to discuss science and literature. If you would like to include Scientilivre in your travel plans, check the event dates for your intended travel period.

The Labège-Village market takes place every Saturday morning from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the car park of the Centre commercial de l’Autan. Local producers, livestock farmers, craftspeople and traders gather there. The selection includes peaches, artisan-made cured meats and organic vegetables, among other things. The market therefore offers a different focus from the museum, exhibitions and festival: here, the emphasis is on produce and traders. If you plan to visit the market, keep the stated hours in mind and check them before your visit.
