Le Born is a picturesque village in the hills between the Tescou Valley and Villemur-sur-Tarn. The farm, brick church, lake and route each offer something different. Rural activities, architectural history and tours through the countryside sit side by side. You can choose what to focus on based on whether you’d rather spend time on a farm, exploring historic buildings or taking a longer route.
Farm life through the seasons
L’Occit’Ânerie is an educational farm in the commune of Le Born, in the hills of Villemur-sur-Tarn. Visitors can meet the farm animals and explore an area dedicated to growing vegetables. There are also numerous activities involving animals, vegetable growing and farm work in general. Different workshops are offered depending on the season; the specific programme may vary. If you’d like to plan a workshop into your visit, check what’s currently on offer beforehand. The farm activities therefore include not just encounters with animals, but also growing produce and the day-to-day work of the farm.
A brick church with several construction phases
The Église Sainte-Foy is built entirely of brick. It dates back to the 14th century and was modified in the 17th and 20th centuries. The church thus combines a medieval origin with later construction phases. Inside, the vault keystones bear a coat of arms dated 1682. The choir features chamfered arches and columns with floral or figurative capitals. The fortified façade with false machicolations also shapes the architecture. At the southeast corner is a round tower with a staircase leading to the dovecote bell tower. Together, these details give the church several distinctive architectural and historical features.
Planning a route between the village and the lake
“Les collines du Born” is a 17.3-kilometre route with two loops, starting in the hilltop village of Le Born. Its length makes it a route in its own right. A large section runs along roads, making it particularly suitable for cyclists with touring bikes. Check the route and trail conditions locally before setting off. Before returning to the village centre, the route passes Lac du Born, where you can take a refreshing break. The route thus combines a longer ride with the option of stopping by the lake, without prescribing a fixed schedule.
The lake, a break and fishing
Lac Le Born is a small lake lined with trees, with benches and a picnic table. As facilities may change, briefly check the current situation before planning a picnic. There is also a carp fishing area by the lake. If you’d like to fish there, check the local rules. The lake and the route offer different possibilities: one passes Lac du Born and is suitable for a break; Lac Le Born is the focus for lakeside time, picnic facilities and carp fishing.
