Ayguesvives is a designated stop on the Canal du Midi greenway and also offers a variety of cultural attractions: a Gallo-Roman milestone, an 18th-century château that serves as the town hall, and an open-air theatre. When planning your trip, you can decide whether to focus on cycling and walking, historical connections or an artistic venue. These themes can be explored individually or brought together as different facets of the town.

Cycling and walking routes along the Canal du Midi

The greenway southeast of Toulouse stretches for nearly 20 kilometres and follows developed former towpaths for cycling and walking. Ayguesvives is a designated stop. The distance and the stop designation answer different planning questions: the nearly 20 kilometres describe the regional route, while the stop designation places Ayguesvives along its course. When planning a trip, you can distinguish the greenway’s regional extent from the choice of a particular section.

The Boucle d’En Mauran route follows the Ruisseau de l’Amadou and then the Canal du Midi. This distinguishes it by the sequence of stream and canal, unlike the greenway description, which refers to former towpaths and cycling and walking. The two routes offer different planning points of reference: one follows two waterways in sequence, while the other specifies the type of path and the activities mentioned.

The Ayguesvives lock, also called the Ticaille lock, is home to an old watermill. There are two structures in the Ayguesvives area.

Culture from antiquity to literature and the present day

Beneath the porch of Ayguesvives church is a Gallo-Roman milestone classified as a protected historic object. The Château du Froment dates from the 18th century and has housed the present-day town hall since 2003. The two places offer different perspectives: the milestone takes you back to Gallo-Roman times, while the château brings together architectural history and municipal use.

The heritage trail tells of the heroines from the Comtesse de Ségur’s “Les Petites Filles Modèles” staying at their grandfather’s family château in Ayguesvives. Those who want to connect literature with local history will find a different approach here than through the architectural landmarks.

The Théâtre de verdure in Parc de l’Orangerie

Parc de l’Orangerie is now home to the Théâtre de verdure, an open-air theatre. It provides space for a variety of artistic events in a protected natural setting. The theatre is integrated into the landscape using locally produced, bio-based materials. In this way, the park complements the historical themes with a venue that brings together art, landscape and choice of materials.
