The church, château, orchid trail and cycling tour offer different perspectives on Séailles. The buildings tell the story of the village, the Ferme des Pitoux trail crosses dry slopes and wetlands, and the “La vallée de la Douze” cycling tour connects Séailles with other places. When planning your visit, it is worth distinguishing between these activities: they range from historic buildings and a visit by prior arrangement to a tour with specified duration and difficulty levels.

Church and Château: two chapters in the village’s history

The parish church of Séailles is dedicated to Saint-Pierre and Sainte-Radegonde. The Église Saint-Pierre has a rectangular nave ending in a semicircular apse. The present-day church was built around 1821–1840. Its layout and construction period give it a different historical profile from the chapel of the Château de Séailles, which dates from the 9th century.

The château grounds include a chapel with a few surviving old remains and a dovecote. The chapel formerly served as the village church. The Castelnau of Séailles stands on a rise between the château and the church. Together, these provide several specific points of reference for an overview of the area’s architectural history: the dedication of the parish church, the approximate construction period of the present-day Église Saint-Pierre, and the former function of the château chapel. The chapel’s historical role should be distinguished from that of the present-day church, which was built later.

Orchid trail and products at Maison Pitoux

The Ferme des Pitoux orchid trail offers a different side of Séailles. It passes through dry slopes and wetlands, where visitors can discover natural habitats and biodiversity. The trail can be visited as a family outing by prior arrangement. Arrange your visit in advance and confirm the date before adding it to your plans.

Product tastings are offered on site at Maison Pitoux. Products sold include canned foie gras and duck confit; the selection may change. Check the arrangements for a tasting before your trip. This allows you to plan two distinct interests separately: a visit to the nature trail, which requires prior arrangements, and product tastings offered on site.

The “La vallée de la Douze” cycling tour

At 47.4 kilometres, “La vallée de la Douze” is a cycling tour with several stops. After a detour to the Château de Castelmore, the route continues to Séailles and Avéron-Bergelle and passes the birthplace of d’Artagnan. It runs along both sides of the Douze Valley and avoids the larger towns of the Gers. This route therefore offers a different focus from visiting the buildings or orchid trail: it connects the countryside with several place names over a longer ride.

Two options are listed for the tour: six hours on a hybrid bike at moderate difficulty, or four hours as an easy e-bike tour. The difference is therefore not just the duration, but also the type of bike and the difficulty rating. The route listing was last updated on 23 December 2024; the route, timings, difficulty level and conditions may change. Check the tour information before setting off.

Choose the right focus for your stay

When looking for a holiday rental in Séailles, you can start by considering which of these perspectives matters most for your stay. For local history, the church, château and former function of the chapel offer specific points of interest. The orchid trail is a nature-focused option, but requires prior arrangements. The cycling tour is the option with clearly specified route and duration details.
