Hiking trails, horseback riding and a guided look at the drinking water supply offer different ways to spend your time in Trémouilles. When planning your stay, it is worth considering the activities and their durations separately.

Forest and the Viaur: the landscape of Trémouilles

The Forêt domaniale des Brunes is located in the commune of Trémouilles, south of Rodez in the IFN region of “Ségala.” The forest and the Viaur River border the forest. In the Trémouilles area, the Natura 2000 site “Vallées du Tarn, de l’Aveyron, du Viaur, de l’Agout et du Gijou” (No. FR 7301631) locally covers the smaller riverbed of the Viaur.

The natural setting is also reflected in the hiking options, though these should not be treated as a single route. The Sentier de l’Abbaye is a trail in the PR network; another short, yellow-marked trail crosses the Forêt domaniale des Brunes.

Hiking: a route with a stated distance and a short forest trail

The Sentier de l’Abbaye is 11.5 kilometers long, with a stated duration of three hours. It passes through Trémouilles and follows the left bank of the Viaur. The actual duration may vary depending on conditions, so the stated time is a guide for planning your day.

When comparing the trails, the Sentier de l’Abbaye has a specific distance and time, while the other trail is described as short and runs through the forest. Check on site whether its yellow markings are still in place. This will help you choose between a hike with a stated distance and duration and a shorter route through the forest.

Horseback riding: different options in Trémouilles

The Ecuries de Bannes in Bannes, Trémouilles, offer one- or two-hour rides with a state-qualified riding instructor. Pony rides and riding lessons are also available for children from the age of two and a half. Lessons run year-round and cater to everyone from beginners to riders at Galop 7 level and above; they are taught by state-qualified instructors.

The Ranch du Lévézou is an equestrian tourism center in Le Bastié, Trémouilles. It offers rides lasting one hour, two hours or half a day, with a maximum of five riders per ride. The two options therefore differ in their stated durations: the Ecuries offer one- and two-hour rides, while the Ranch also offers a half-day option.

Moulin de Galat and cultural heritage

The Moulin de Galat drinking water plant began operating in the late 1960s and was an industrial project ahead of its time. Guided tours explain how drinking water is produced and the importance of this vital resource. The public tour is free and lasts 1.5 hours. Groups of ten or more can visit only by prior reservation; check the visiting conditions before you arrive.

The church of Trémouilles also offers a distinctive historical landmark: it has nine signed stained-glass panels dating from 1893–1894, created by the Atelier Albert Bry et Léon Laissac de Rodez. The church also houses a modern wooden statue of the Virgin Mary named Notre-Dame-d’Elle Deux Aygues.

Estimate how much time to allow for your stay

For planning your day, you can compare the stated durations: three hours for the Sentier de l’Abbaye, one or two hours for rides at the Ecuries, up to half a day at the Ranch, and 1.5 hours for a tour of the Moulin de Galat.
