Pilgrimage Route and Keep

The GR 65, part of the Via Podiensis, passes through Sénergues on its way towards Conques, giving the village a clear connection to a named pilgrimage route. The keep of the Château de Sénergues is another point of cultural and historical interest: the square tower dates from the 14th century and is open to visitors. Visiting arrangements may vary seasonally; check them for your travel dates.

Churches and Chapels with Their Own Architectural History

The present-day church of Saint-Martin brings together several layers of history and furnishings. It was largely rebuilt and extended in the 16th century, while retaining reused elements from an earlier building: corbels, a tabernacle and a granite baptismal font. Its stained-glass windows were installed in 1965. They are made of coloured glass slabs worked with a martelin and were created by Father Ephrem Socard, a Benedictine monk and stained-glass artist at En-Calcat Abbey in the Tarn.

Saint-Sulpice Chapel combines different features: a pre-Romanesque bell gable, a bell dated 1548 and a rare nave with a flat ceiling. The dates refer to different details: the bell gable is pre-Romanesque, while 1548 is the date of the bell.

Pomiès Chapel draws attention to its vault and triumphal arch. Its vault is pre-Romanesque; the round-arched triumphal arch is set back from the walls. To compare the architectural forms, it is worth distinguishing between the chapels: at Pomiès, the focus is on the vault and triumphal arch; at Saint-Sulpice, on the bell gable, bell and nave.

Montarnal is a small village in a bend of the Lot River. Its chapel contains wrought-iron grilles dating from the 12th century. Here, the landscape and architectural history are easy to distinguish: the village is characterised by its location on the Lot, while the chapel is notable for a specific historic furnishing.

The dates can also be clearly distinguished: the grilles in Montarnal date from the 12th century, the keep from the 14th century, and 1548 is the date of the bell at Saint-Sulpice. By contrast, 1965 is the year the windows were installed at Saint-Martin.

Walking through the countryside and to the waterfalls

The walk to the cascades du Tayrac begins at Place de l’église Saint-Martin in Sénergues. After crossing the stream, it leads to the waterfalls. As trail conditions can change, it is advisable to check the latest information before setting out. Walks and hikes in the commune also take you through forests, meadows, pastures and farmland in a protected green setting. This offers two distinct ways to enjoy nature: a walk to a named destination and routes through different types of landscape.
