Tabre combines a renovated village centre with its location on the heights of the Touyre valley. History, landscape and regional produce offer different perspectives on the village. When planning your trip, you can choose between a focus on history and one on nature and walking routes.

Trail, Views and Landscape

The Sentier de Peyreblanca runs through the commune of Tabre and connects Tabre with Limbrassac. It offers views across the Pays d’Olmes and of the Saint-Barthélemy massif. The route and the views provide different points of reference: the connection with Limbrassac describes the trail’s relationship to the village, while the named areas describe what it overlooks. Weather and vegetation affect visibility. Before setting out on a hike, check the trail markers and trail conditions, as both can change.

The village faces south-southeast and is influenced by a Mediterranean climate. These influences favour some orchid species; species and seasonal visibility may vary. From Tabre, you can also see the Château de Léran. The plants and views offer different facets of the landscape around the village.

Tabre’s History in the Village Centre

In the 13th century, Tabre belonged to the Lords of Lévis-Mirepoix. After the family split in 1329, the village passed to the Lévis-Léran branch; Tabre remained under its rule until the French Revolution. The split marks the chronological break between these two periods of rule.

The original settlement was probably confined to the present-day village centre. Historically, residents had to go to Laroque d’Olmes for church services because Tabre had no church. The village centre and the historical connection with another village both feature in Tabre’s history.

A project for a new fountain, estimated at 500 francs, was approved in 1855. The fountain was intended to meet the needs of residents and their livestock. The fountain and livestock trough in Tabre were topped with a masonry structure and a parapet.

Regional Produce from the Pays d’Olmes

The Pyrén’io meat-cutting workshop in Tabre offers regional products from the Pays d’Olmes. Its range includes beef, veal, lamb and pork, burger patties, barbecue products, fresh sausages, preserves and prepared dishes. The product range may change. Before making the trip, check whether the products you want are available and whether visitors are allowed access.

The main points of interest are easy to distinguish when planning your trip: the Sentier de Peyreblanca connects Tabre with Limbrassac and offers views of named landscape areas; the village centre and historical sites reveal the village’s past. Pyrén’io adds a connection to regional produce, although availability and visitor access should be confirmed in advance.
