Marc Chagall’s “La Paix” stained-glass window in the Chapelle des Cordeliers is twelve metres high. It is a striking focal point for a stay that can bring together art, local history and routes along the water or through the countryside. Saarburg also offers different ways to spend your days: with a museum visit, a route on foot or by mountain bike, and a detour to Golf du Pays de Sarrebourg.

Art and history in Saarburg

The Chapelle des Cordeliers displays Chagall’s “La Paix” stained-glass window. Audioguides are available in French, German and English. You can also choose how to visit: the Chagall trail offers self-guided visits, guided tours on request and educational visits. If you are planning a guided tour, arrange it in advance; arrangements may change.

The ground floor of the Musée du Pays de Sarrebourg is devoted to the archaeological heritage of the Sarrebourg region. The museum also displays more than 150 faience and porcelain objects from Niderviller. This brings together two distinct ways to explore the area: regional archaeology and an extensive selection of faience and porcelain from the place named above. If you are interested in the town’s history, you can also look out for visible traces of its fortifications: they comprised 28 towers and four gates, and some remains can still be seen today.

Trails along the Sarre and around the town pond

The Circuit de la vallée de la Sarre starts at the Sarrebourg leisure complex. In Sarrebourg, it follows the banks of the Sarre, then continues through the countryside on pleasant rural paths. This route therefore alternates between riverbanks in the town and rural paths. You can use it as a guide if you would like to experience the countryside as well as the town centre.

Another option is the Circuit de la zone de loisirs. Designed for walks and as an introduction to mountain biking, it runs around the town pond, where the Sarrebourg leisure complex is located. The two routes therefore differ in their stated course and purpose: the Circuit de la vallée de la Sarre follows the Sarre and continues through the countryside, while the Circuit de la zone de loisirs goes around the pond and is also intended for first-time mountain bikers.

Golf with views of the Vosges

Golf du Pays de Sarrebourg offers a driving range, a compact 9-hole course and an 18-hole course. These three options give you different formats to choose from: a practice area and two courses with different numbers of holes. The courses are set on high ground at the edge of the forest, overlooking the town and offering views of the blue line of the Vosges. Golf thus adds an activity connected with the surrounding area to the cultural and outdoor options.

Trails and accommodation planning

When planning your accommodation, you can first consider which of these interests you would like to shape your trip: Chagall’s stained-glass window and the museum, a walk or an introduction to mountain biking, or the golf course. The Isibus network makes it easier to get around the entire Sarrebourg urban area. Take it into account when planning your transport, and check current connections before your trip if you would like to plan your routes around them.
