The Tour de Drince connects Rombas’ industrial history with sweeping views across the region. The 25-metre-high metal tower stands at an altitude of 390 metres and was built using steel from the now-vanished Rombas works. It bears witness to the expertise of the Lorraine steel industry. From the tower, a 360-degree panorama stretches across the Orne, Fensch and Moselle valleys; the view extends several dozen kilometres and beyond the borders of Luxembourg and Germany.
Traces at the CĂ´te de Drince
On the slopes of the CĂ´te de Drince lies the Les Roches archaeological site, where traces of human presence dating to around 15,000 BC have been discovered. Walking along the heights of the CĂ´te, you can also discover the remains of a Mediomatrici camp dating from the 3rd or 2nd century BC. To find your way, it is helpful to distinguish between the sites: Les Roches refers to the site of the older traces, while the camp remains lie on the heights of the CĂ´te. If you wish to visit the camp remains specifically, check local access conditions before your visit.
Forest Valley and Panorama
Fond Saint Martin lies at the heart of a 400-hectare forest valley. There is an ornithological nature trail there, developed in collaboration with the Ligue pour la Protection des Oiseaux. The view from the Tour de Drince and the trail in Fond Saint Martin offer two different perspectives on the landscape: a sweeping panorama in one place, and a focus on birdlife in the forest valley in the other.
Choose Routes by Type
The 23-kilometre Voie verte du Fil bleu de l’Orne runs from Rombas to the Moineville leisure centre. It is completely flat, follows its own route, separated from other traffic, and is open to all non-motorised forms of transport. Another option is the GR5F stage from Rombas to Plappeville: it is a hiking route marked with white-and-red GR waymarks. For the Voie verte, its length, flat profile and dedicated route are key factors when choosing; for the GR5F, the stage destination and waymarking provide guidance. This makes it easy to choose between a flat, non-motorised route and a marked hiking stage.
Cultural Events and Dates
The Médiathèque La Pléiade hosts performances and events throughout the year; it is advisable to check the current programme before visiting. Its offerings range from books, comics and manga to board games and video games, as well as magazines, music and films. The Médiathèque therefore offers a year-round programme of events, while Les Estivales offers free events for the public in summer. The town of Rombas has been presenting Les Estivales since 2003. If you are travelling to Rombas for the series, check the specific event dates in advance.
