Fort Casso and the Maginot Line

Fort Casso is an infantry work of the Maginot Line and gives Rohrbach-Lès-Bitche a clear historical focus. During a guided tour, you go 25 metres underground through several facilities: a power plant, a kitchen, accommodation for the troops and a telephone exchange. These facilities range from supplies and accommodation to energy and communications. During the tour, visitors can also bring a 135-tonne gun turret into combat position. This hands-on activity adds a specific technical task to the tour of the facilities.

Outside Fort Casso, a footpath connects the entrance block with the combat blocks. It draws attention to the layout of the site, while the guided tour underground focuses on individual facilities. The two aspects can therefore be clearly distinguished: the path between the named types of blocks is the focus here, while the rooms and gun turret inside the fort are part of the guided tour.

Saint-Rémi Parish Church

The parish church of Saint-Rémi offers a different cultural and historical focus. It was built in 1772 to plans by Jean-Baptiste Henrion. In 1894, the nave and choir were decorated with plaster and stucco. The two dates mark different stages: 1772, the construction based on Henrion’s plans, and 1894, the later decoration of the nave and choir. Unlike Fort Casso, the focus here is on the history of a parish church and its interior decoration.

For those looking to include a sporting or relaxing activity alongside historical attractions, the Centre aquatique offers a different focus for a visit.

Swimming, wellness and activities

The Centre aquatique communautaire focuses on pools and wellness. It has a 25-metre swimming pool with five lanes and a learning pool with two lanes, a massage area and a paddling pool. There is also a wellness area with a sauna, hammam, whirlpool, massage showers and a relaxation area. The facilities serve different purposes: the lane pool, learning pool and wellness area offer different ways to enjoy the water.

Activities include aquagym, aquabike, swimming and triathlon clubs, antenatal classes and aqua birthday parties. The programme therefore includes sports activities, clubs, classes and celebrations in the water.

Market and route

A notice from February 2023 mentions a Lorraine rotisserie selling roast chicken at the Marché du Jeudi Matin. Check before travelling whether the vendor will be there.

For 2026, La Rohrbachoise is promoted as an easier, family-friendly route that is accessible to bicycles, pushchairs and people with reduced mobility, and does not pass through Fort Casso. Check the event details before travelling. Unlike the footpath at the fort, which connects the entrance and combat blocks, La Rohrbachoise is a separate route.
