In Morhange, there’s plenty to explore during a stay, from the leisure area at Étang de la Mutche to the town’s architectural and military history. You can shape your plans around two distinct interests: observing nature and enjoying activities on the water, or exploring historic buildings and exhibitions. When looking for a hotel in Morhange, it helps to decide in advance which focus you’d like your stay to have.

At Étang de la Mutche: Lakeside Path, Wildlife and Water Sports

The leisure area at Étang de la Mutche covers 160 hectares, 80 of which are taken up by the large pond. There is a path along the shore and a birdwatching centre. From there, you can observe coots, cormorants, mallards and amphibians. The site offers different ways to experience nature: walking along the shore and observing the animals mentioned at the centre.

The leisure area also has a beach and pedal boats. Founded in 1967, the Club Nautique de la Mutche has dinghies, Optimists, windsurfing boards, and canoes or kayaks. Walking, wildlife watching and activities on the water offer different ways to enjoy the same leisure area. If you’re planning a particular activity, check the relevant operating conditions before your visit.

Gothic Church and Historic Heritage

The Église Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul is a Gothic building dating from the 15th century and is listed as a historic monument. The church contains a 14th-century Vierge à l’Enfant, a statue of Saint Barbara and a 15th-century altarpiece, as well as the Hosanna Bell from 1501. The dated furnishings therefore span the 14th century to the early 16th century.

The Maison du Bailli offers a different perspective on Morhange’s past. It is the town’s oldest building and also dates from the 15th century. While the Gothic style and historic furnishings stand out at the Église Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul, the Maison du Bailli is notable for being Morhange’s oldest building.

Military History, Chapel and Walks

The Memoriz – Espace mémoriel de Morhange mainly traces local military history from 1870 to 1945, as well as Morhange’s military history up to 1992. The exhibition is spread across two buildings with a total floor area of 1,500 m². Its thematic scope and size give this subject a different weight from the town’s individual historic buildings.

The Chapelle de Rode is also one of Morhange’s religious sites: the traditional Sainte-Barbe Mass is held there every year in honour of the patron saint of firefighters. Check the date of the Mass before your trip. The Claire Forêt site offers opportunities for walks. These two attractions provide their own points of interest alongside the military history and historic architecture.

For a taste of regional crafts and local producers, a report dated 11 August 2026 announced the opening of a shop run by the Les Mordus du Local association at 23 Pl. de la République. The shop brings together around ten craftspeople and producers from the region. If you’re planning a visit, check in advance whether it is open and what is currently on offer.

Whether you’re more interested in architectural history, military history, walks or the leisure area at Étang, Morhange offers a range of themes to explore. The historic sites and leisure area appeal to different interests; when planning your trip, you can choose the focus that best suits your plans.
