In Longeville-lès-Metz, different interests in exploring the area lead to specific destinations: the “Le tour du Mont Saint-Quentin” loop combines a route rated difficult with panoramic views of the Moselle Valley, vineyards and hillside villages. Water sports have their own focus at the base on Île Saint-Symphorien; the keep and Saint-Quentin Church represent architectural history spanning several centuries. This makes it easy to explore the area through its nature, water and culture.

Loop Trail and Landscape on Mont Saint-Quentin

The “Le tour du Mont Saint-Quentin” loop is 8.3 kilometres long and has 180 metres of elevation gain. Whether you walk or go mountain biking, the rating is the same: the route is considered difficult in both cases. These route details may change if the trail changes.

The route crosses the plateau’s limestone grasslands and passes through woodland. Panoramic views take in the Moselle Valley, vineyards and hillside villages. From the viewpoint, you can also see Longeville-lès-Metz, Metz and the Moselle Valley. Mont Saint-Quentin is a designated area, partly within Natura 2000, that is home to protected habitats and species.

On the banks of the Moselle lies Parc du Grand Patural, a former horse-racing track with an arboretum and walking paths. It offers a different kind of landscape from the route rated difficult: here, the arboretum and walking paths are specific options to consider when planning your visit.

Water and Water Sports

A water sports base is located at the body of water on Île Saint-Symphorien in Longeville-lès-Metz. DML Longeville-lès-Metz is a marina and nautical club with moorings and boat-launching facilities for boats, jet skis, fishing boats and kayaks.

Activities for club members include stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking and tubing. DML members can also explore Île Saint-Symphorien. As these activities are reserved for members, please check current membership and availability conditions before your trip.

Architectural History and Viticulture

The Donjon des Gournay (ancien) is considered one of the oldest structures in Longeville-lès-Metz. Its main construction phases date to the 12th and 16th centuries; it has been listed as a historic monument in France since 6 December 1989. Saint-Quentin Church dates to a later period: it was built in 1867 and is an example of French Neo-Gothic architecture.

The two buildings offer different perspectives on the past: the keep is defined by its several main construction phases, while the key reference points for Saint-Quentin are its construction date, 1867, and its Neo-Gothic style.

Viticulture also played a fundamental role in the life and development of Longeville-lès-Metz. The historic vineyards on Mont Saint-Quentin covered almost 75 hectares from the 3rd century until around the middle of the 20th century. This history adds another perspective on the development of the area to that offered by its buildings.
