Panoramic views over the Zorn Valley, a glassmaking history dating back to 1723, and a hiking route of around six hours give Harreberg its distinctive character. The landscape, history and hiking each offer a different way to experience the town and its surroundings. The activities differ in time commitment and what they offer: the route covers 16.5 kilometres and takes around six hours; the distillery in Harreberg offers free visits with tastings and sells spirits directly from the distillery.

Panoramic views and rocky landscapes

Harreberg offers beautiful panoramic views over the Zorn Valley. The town is one of the municipalities on the edge of, or in the heart of, the Vosges Mosellanes massif. The region is shaped by deep valleys and picturesque rock faces of pink stone.

Nearby, Geisterfelsen is a steep rocky slope of pink Vosges sandstone. Also close to Harreberg, the Rocher des Corbeaux offers a beautiful view over the Ententhal. The two spots offer different highlights: at Geisterfelsen, the rock itself takes centre stage; at the Rocher des Corbeaux, it is the view into the valley.

Glassmaking history and Gallo-Roman traces

On 9 November 1723, Charles Reinhardt, Count of Linange-Dabo, granted glassmakers Gaspard GERARD and Samuel MOSER from Troisfontaines permission to build a glassworks at Harreberg. Glassblowing families began arriving in Harreberg from 1723.

Gallo-Roman remains also form part of the town’s history: Harreberg has fragments of steles. The Gallo-Roman stele fragments and the permission granted on 9 November 1723 to build a glassworks mark different periods in Harreberg’s history.

Local spirits and visits

The Distillerie de la Quintessence was founded in Harreberg in 2012 and sells spirits there directly from the distillery. It offers free visits with product tastings; groups should make reservations. As visit arrangements and product availability may change, check both in advance. This will help you fit a visit into your plans without assuming a particular selection or a fixed date.

Hike between Harreberg and Dabo

The Circuit sur les versants de la rivière Zorn between Harreberg and Dabo is a 16.5-kilometre circular route that takes around six hours. The hiking route focuses on culture, nature and families. At 16.5 kilometres and around six hours, it should be planned as a hike in its own right, not a short stop.

If you plan to take the route, allow around six hours and check trail conditions before setting out. This lets you treat the hike as a main activity, while the panoramic views and historical themes offer another perspective on Harreberg.
