Marcorignan brings together local history, heritage routes of varying lengths, and offerings centered on guided walks and local products. The village center is laid out as a circulade, and a karst spring points to its former water supply. Local experiences offer different highlights: visible architectural traces in the village, a heritage route through the hills, and guided walks featuring legends and opportunities to sample local products. This gives you a choice of history, activity and regional discoveries.

Village Character and Historical Landmarks

Marcorignan’s village center is laid out as a circulade, where remnants of the fortified walls can be seen. The circulade describes the layout of the center, while the wall remnants make its fortifications visible. The church of Marcorignan dates from the 12th century and is dedicated to Saint Genest. The parchment known as “Chaperon Rouge” is a royal charter from 1616. It bears a wax seal and can be seen at Marcorignan Town Hall. If you would like to view the document, check visiting arrangements before you travel. These different dates span the period from the 12th-century church to the 1616 charter. This places an architectural and a written record from different eras side by side.

Water and Heritage Routes

Two heritage routes make it easy to choose a distance. “L’eau, ça coule de source” is a 2.5 km circular route through the hills of Marcorignan. “L’eau, bonne à tout faire” is 8 km long and takes about two hours. The 2.5 km route is the shorter circular walk, while the 8 km route is the longer one and includes an approximate duration. This makes distance and time useful, concrete factors for planning. Both route names put water in the spotlight. The Pech Roumieu spring provides a historical connection: as a karst spring, it once supplied Marcorignan with water.

Guided Walks and Wine

The “Je vous emmène” offering is for visitors who would like to discover stories while out and about: the guided walks explore mysteries and legends associated with old stones and forests. Each walk offers the chance to sample some local products. As details of the offering may change, check whether your preferred walk is taking place before making plans.

Domaine de Sainte Anne is a family-run winery in the village center and offers visits and tastings. With “Je vous emmène,” the opportunity to sample products is tied to the individual walk; at the Domaine, the focus is on visiting the winery and its tastings. The offerings therefore differ in what they center on: a guided story along the way or a visit focused on the winery.
