If you want to choose between art, history and green spaces in Vitry-Sur-Seine, you’ll find a wide range of places to explore: an interactive science museum, art venues, public artworks, a listed church and a 34-hectare park. This lets you shape your stay around your interests rather than trying to combine everything into a single sightseeing itinerary.

Science, art and cultural venues

Exploradôme is an interactive museum where you can discover science, technology and digital topics. It offers a different perspective from the city’s art institutions: here, the focus is on scientific and technical discoveries, while elsewhere you’ll find visual art or choreography. Consider which of these interests you’d like to focus on during your stay.

Since the 1950s, MAC VAL has been devoted exclusively to the contemporary art scene in France. La Briqueterie was a brickworks in Vitry-Sur-Seine before being converted into a choreographic centre. It presents works and the artists behind them to the public throughout the year, featuring both established and emerging artists. Here, the building’s former industrial use meets its current cultural role.

Galerie municipale Jean-Collet uses 500 m² of flexible exhibition space for a seasonal programme featuring painting, sculpture, photography, video and installations. It is housed in former municipal baths that were renovated in 1982. The venue combines changing art forms with a distinct architectural history. As the exhibition programme is seasonal, it’s best to check the dates against your travel plans.

Public art and historic buildings

The 1 % culturel programme includes more than 130 works in Vitry-Sur-Seine. They shape the city’s streets, schools and municipal facilities, and are accessible to everyone and visible throughout the year. You’ll encounter this art in different parts of the city, making it distinct from the seasonal exhibitions at Galerie municipale Jean-Collet.

Saint-Germain Church offers a different historical focus. Construction began around 1150 and was completed in the 14th century. The church is protected as a historic monument. Inside, you’ll find paintings of the Holy Family and Saint Mary Magdalene, as well as 12th-century capitals. Its construction period, protected status and interior offer a different perspective from the contemporary art venues.

Walks in the Parc des Lilas

The Parc des Lilas covers 34 hectares and is located on a former horticultural plateau. As you walk, you can follow a flower-lined canal and explore dry grasslands, rose gardens and wooded areas. The park also has picnic areas, community gardens and playgrounds. Here, the landscape takes centre stage, while the city’s cultural offerings range from science and exhibitions to public art and architectural history.
