Livry-Gargan offers a range of options for a stay: the Château de la Forêt with its cultural program, parks with their own distinctive character, and places where architectural and industrial history can be seen. This lets you consider culture, walks and other leisure activities as different areas of focus.
Château History and Architecture
The Château de la Forêt was built in 1864 by Doctor Lefèvre in the style of Louis XIII. It holds the Île-de-France regional heritage label “Patrimoine d’intérêt régional.” The château is open to the public and hosts exhibitions and cultural events throughout the year. Since the program and visiting arrangements may change, it is worth checking the latest information before your visit.
The Église Saint-Michel offers a different architectural impression: it has a square concrete floor plan and is arranged around a large central lantern tower with a square spire. Comparing it with the château reveals two clearly distinct architectural forms—from the historic style of the 1864 building to the church’s geometric layout.
Parks, Woodland and Lake
The 9-hectare Parc Lefèvre offers space for walks and relaxation. Its trees include giant California redwoods, cedars, and centuries-old oaks and plane trees. The Parc de la Mairie is smaller, at 4.2 hectares, and is a remnant of the Bondy Forest; large oaks and a pond define this park. Their different sizes and landscape features give you two specific options when choosing a green space to explore.
A larger landscape spanning several municipalities is the 137-hectare Parc forestier de la Poudrerie. It extends across Livry-Gargan, Sevran, Villepinte and Vaujours and preserves traces of the former gunpowder works. Woodland ponds and open grasslands support a diverse range of flora and fauna. Several notable bird species helped secure the park’s inclusion in the Seine-Saint-Denis Natura 2000 network. In the part within Livry-Gargan, you can enjoy both family walks and more challenging hikes.
The Lac de Sévigné is a natural remnant of the former park of Livry Abbey. A footpath allows you to walk all the way around the lake. The abbey’s history is also part of the local story: in the 17th century, it was a place where the Marquise de Sévigné stayed. The building at the Sainte-Marie spring by the lake has been fully restored. There is also a light well for observing the spring and information panels about the site’s history. Walking and hiking trails connect Livry-Gargan’s parks and bring the city’s cultural and historical heritage to life.
Culture and Leisure Activities
Micro-Folie Livry-Gargan combines digital cultural discovery with hands-on activities. Its free digital museum provides high-resolution access to numerous works of art. Visitors can also use virtual reality headsets. Bookable themed tours explore the digital museum, while workshops take place in its FabLab. It has a 3D printer, a digital sewing machine, a vinyl cutter and a scroll saw. The program and access arrangements may change, so check the latest visitor information in advance.
For water sports, the Centre nautique Roger Lebas has three pools: a 25 Ă— 15-meter swimming pool with six lanes, a smaller pool with a current channel and massage jets, and a paddling pool for children under three. The Golf de la Poudrerie has a compact 9-hole course and practice areas; it is located within the municipalities of Livry-Gargan and Sevran. These options add further leisure activities to the cultural and nature themes.
The Médiathèque René-Cassin is also open to everyone. You can read, borrow documents, work, find information and attend cultural events there. The events on offer and opening times may change; check the latest visitor information when planning your visit.
