Explore Drancy through its memorial sites, architecture and Parc de Ladoucette. This gives you different options when planning your trip: history and architectural heritage on the one hand, nature and exercise in the park on the other. Decide which interest you want to shape your stay.
Remembrance at the Mémorial de la Shoah de Drancy
The permanent exhibition at the Mémorial de la Shoah de Drancy traces the history of the camp, the lives of the people interned there from 1941 to 1944, and the organization of deportations from the camp beginning in 1942. These time periods overlap: internment lasted from 1941 to 1944, while the organization of deportations began in 1942. The exhibition is presented in French and English; an audio guide is also available through a smartphone app. When preparing your visit, check the memorial’s current visitor information, as exhibition content and visiting arrangements may change.
Architecture and cultural heritage
The Château de Ladoucette has been awarded the “Patrimoine d’intérêt régional” label, meaning heritage of regional interest. Its exhibition space covers 600 m² across eight rooms; the exhibition program may change. The château thus combines a regional distinction with a clearly organized exhibition space. At the Cité de la Muette, the surviving parts of the U-shaped building were classified as a historic monument by decree dated May 25, 2001: the façades and roofs, staircases and their stairwells, cellars, and the courtyard floor. The château and the Cité offer different ways to explore Drancy’s cultural heritage: a regional label on the one hand, and a dated classification of specifically named parts of a building on the other.
A walking tour and time in the green
The “Architectures d’hier et d’aujourd’hui” walking tour takes you through Drancy from the Cité de la Muette to the Médiathèque Georges Brassens. Its title relates older and contemporary architecture; its two endpoints give the tour a specific direction. For architecture enthusiasts, it complements the study of protected building elements with a route whose theme explicitly spans yesterday and today.
Parc de Ladoucette covers 6.5 hectares. Ornithological walks led by the LPO take place there, and the park also has a one-kilometre fitness trail. The activities have different focuses: the walks draw attention to birdlife, while the trail is for exercise. The 6.5 hectares describe the park’s area, while the kilometre measurement gives the length of the fitness trail—two different measures for the green space and the exercise facility. If you would like to join an LPO walk, check the dates. Before visiting the park, check the latest access arrangements.
Plan your stay around your interests
When looking for a hotel for your stay in Drancy, use the reason for your trip as your first filter: are memorial history and architecture your priorities, or would you like to include nature and exercise? Set this priority before comparing specific accommodation options.
