Get to know Lognes through its historic buildings, man-made lakes and aviation-focused infrastructure. Le Village and the monuments represent earlier periods; the parks and woodland reveal other facets of the designed landscape. The airfield adds another clearly defined focal point. These distinctions can help you choose the aspects of Lognes that you want to shape your stay.
Buildings from different periods
The Le Village district was renovated as a testament to Lognes’ past. Its design follows the style characteristic of houses in the Brie region. The history of Château du Mandinet dates back to the 14th century, when the seigneurial fief already existed. The château is considered the oldest monument in the municipality and became the town hall in 1990. Lognes thus brings together a district shaped by Brie architecture and a historic building with medieval origins.
Église Saint-Martin marks a different period. The Neo-Gothic church was built between 1898 and 1903 and restored by the town between 1994 and 2000. Its interior design has its own distinctive theme: polychrome-painted walls and vaults complement the stained-glass windows. The construction and restoration periods are clearly distinct, while the colourful surfaces also shape the church’s interior.
Lakes, parks and woodland
Five man-made lakes were created during construction of the new town: Étangs des Pêcheurs, du Maubuée, du Segrais, du Grand Bassin and des Ibis. The waterscape is therefore one of Lognes’ deliberately designed features. Parc du Mandinet continues this designed character on a park scale: the contemporary park was designed by Gilles Vexlard in 1981 and laid out around two lakes. It includes Étang des Ibis and extends along the south shore of Étang de Maubuée.
Parc du Segrais brings together other elements of nature: an apiary, two orchards—including a collection preserving apple varieties—and a permaculture garden. Bois de Lognes provides a woodland focus on the edge of the historic centre. This 20-hectare woodland is notable for its diverse flora and fauna. A fitness trail and a botanical educational trail offer distinct themes: exercise and plant life.
Cultural offerings and meeting places
Médiathèque du Segrais holds 45,000 items and has study areas, a small event hall and a seed library. It also offers cultural events throughout the year. Its collection, study areas and events programme bring together several cultural offerings under one roof.
Tiers-lieu Simone Signoret offers a wide range of activities and services in the spirit of diversity, creativity and solidarity. It adds a dedicated venue with a varied programme to Lognes’ cultural scene. For orientation, distinguish these facilities from the historic buildings and green spaces: each offers different themes to consider when choosing your stay.
Aviation as another focal point
Aérodrome de Lognes-Emerainville covers 87 hectares. Its infrastructure includes a 700-metre asphalt runway and a 1,100-metre grass runway. Aéroclub Planeair is based at the airfield in Lognes. The area and differing runway surfaces give a concrete sense of this local infrastructure without reducing the town to aviation.
Aéroclub Les Aiglons offers 30-minute introductory flights with a flight instructor; no prior experience is required. Booking conditions may change, so check them before making plans. Alongside the historic and landscape-related themes, this is a clearly defined flight experience, with its duration specified in advance.
