Discover Guérard through its rural history and vineyard landscape. The Church of Saint-Georges, historic landmarks in the town and paths through the vineyards offer different ways to explore. Activities on the Grand Morin and wine-related experiences round out the picture. You can shape your trip around the themes that interest you most.

The church and local history

The Church of Saint-Georges is one of the largest rural Gothic churches in the Seine-et-Marne department and was built in the early 13th century. Above the entrance portal is the oil painting “Martyre de saint Georges.” The building and painting bring two distinct aspects of Guérard’s religious art history together in one place.

A rare surviving earthen fortification, the Terrée of Guérard, adjoins the former Porte de Provins. It is about 4.5 metres high and roughly 6 metres wide.

Other traces are scattered throughout the town: the phylloxera plaque can be seen on the façade of the town hall; a copy is at its original location in Monthérand. More than ten washhouses, or their remains, can still be seen. A walk along the old wells offers one way to rediscover the area’s rural heritage. Historic crosses are also part of it: five can be seen today. Among them, the Croix de Verre is notable as the only one of these crosses that still bears a carved Christ.

Vineyards and local produce

The vineyard landscape connects the present with the past. In the 19th century, vineyards covered 400 hectares on the slopes of Guérard. After they disappeared in the wake of phylloxera, a wine enthusiast began reviving this heritage through biodynamic cultivation. A walk through Guérard’s historic, revitalised vineyard offers insight into local history and the diversity of the terroir.

The Domaine viticole du Bois Brillant vineyard, run by Vigne Envie, lies in a green valley hollow on the Grand Morin and has nearly 10,000 vines. Vigne Envie organises vineyard tours, winemaking workshops and wine-related events. Visitors can also take part in the grape harvest and vine pruning. If you want these activities to shape your trip, check the dates in advance.

Local producers offer apple juice, cider, beef and wine bearing the IGP Île-de-France designation. The products are sold through short supply chains. As local availability should be checked, you can consider these products as a possible part of your travel plans without assuming they are available at all times.

Getting around the Grand Morin

The Grand Morin offers a canoe route through the Guérard valley described as peaceful and idyllic. On land, there are hiking and cycling routes, including the “rando des vignes.” This gives you different ways to get around: you can focus on a canoe trip or on a hike or bike ride. When choosing a route, take current conditions into account.

A guided tour of the Maison de la Vigne et du Vin is also associated with Guérard. The address given is 30, rue de la Brosse, Le Charnoy, 77580 Guérard. Before your trip, check whether the tour is available on your chosen date. When looking for a hotel for your stay, you can plan your visits first and arrange your travel dates around the dates confirmed for them.
