Beautheil comprises 17 hamlets, spread across an agricultural plateau in the north and the green Aubetin Valley in the south. This north–south division gives the area two distinct landscape settings. For your trip planning, cultural heritage and cycling are also practical themes: the church, menhir and a named route offer points of interest spanning architectural history, prehistory and landscape.

Church of Saint-Martin-et-Sainte-Anne

The Church of Saint-Martin-et-Sainte-Anne dates from the 12th and 14th centuries and was built of millstone. Its structure includes a central nave with a north aisle, a pentagonal apse and a bell tower that is partly integrated into the masonry of the north aisle. The facade features a 19th-century stained-glass window depicting Joan of Arc. The church and window thus represent different periods: the 12th- and 14th-century building phases meet a later subject in the image.

Pierre-Fitte Menhir: Prehistory and Legend

The Pierre-Fitte Menhir, also known as Pignon de Sainte-Aubierge, dates from the Neolithic period; its erection is dated to around 2500 BC. It is about three metres high and made of Stampian sandstone. The menhir has been classified as a historic monument since 1889. The approximate date refers to its prehistoric origin, while its classification in 1889 represents a later historical designation. A local legend links it to Saint Flodoberthe and her sister, Saint Aubierge; this story should be distinguished from the archaeological interpretation. The menhir is also considered a historic landmark for cyclists.

Landscape and Walking Trails

Within the municipality of Beautheil-Saints, cultivated fields lie to the north and wooded areas to the south. The Aubetin runs through the entire village within the municipality of Beautheil-Saints, and its meanders shape the landscape. Walking trails in the municipality of Beautheil-Saints run alongside meadows, woods and the Aubetin; mills and washhouses are situated along the trails. The walking trails therefore connect the landscape with specific points of interest along the way.

Cycling Route through Beautheil

The “Les Coteaux du Morin et de l'Aubetin – Beautheil” cycling route passes through Beautheil and its surroundings, includes a washhouse and offers a rest stop near the Aubetin. It is open year-round and free to access; check the access conditions again before setting out. This gives you a clear choice of activity: the route is a cycling option, while the trails in the municipality of Beautheil-Saints are described as walking trails.
