When planning a stay in Paray-Vieille-Poste, you can choose between green spaces, cultural events and local history. Parc Gaston-Jankiewicz combines a tree-lined path and landscaped pond with an ecological, social and educational project. Cultural highlights include L’Avant-Scène, the Médiathèque Antoine de Saint-Exupéry and the annual cultural season; traces of the past lead to Ferme de Contin and the Pyramide commémorative du Maréchal de Vaux.
Green spaces at Parc Gaston-Jankiewicz
Parc Gaston-Jankiewicz was created in 1999 as an ecological, social and educational project between the airport and the municipality. A one-kilometre tree-lined path and a landscaped pond are among the park’s defining features. Children can discover and observe rescued farm animals there. The park therefore offers several ways to enjoy it: walking the path, visiting the pond and watching the animals with children. If you want to make time in green surroundings a focus of your visit, this is a specific place to do so.
Cinema and cultural events
L’Avant-Scène is a venue with 360 seats for a wide range of artistic performances and film screenings. In collaboration with Les Bords de Scène, the L’Avant-Scène theatre screens films several times a week. Both films and other artistic performances feature on its programme. If you want to attend a specific screening, check the dates in advance.
Paray-Vieille-Poste also offers a varied cultural season each year, with performances for all age groups. This annual programme complements individual film screenings with a broader cultural offering. When planning your visit, it is worth distinguishing between a particular performance and the cultural season’s programme.
The Médiathèque Antoine de Saint-Exupéry has more than 20,000 documents across two floors. It also offers exhibitions, performances, discussion events, and creative and digital workshops. Its collection and varied events come together here, making the Médiathèque another cultural highlight alongside cinema and theatre.
Local history: from Ferme de Contin to the pyramid
The existence of Ferme de Contin is documented from the 12th century; it was acquired by the Abbey of Sainte-Geneviève in Paris in 1195. The former barn now houses the parish church. The Pyramide commémorative du Maréchal de Vaux was erected in 1790. The dates refer to different events: 1195 marks the farm’s acquisition by the abbey, while 1790 is the year the pyramid was built. Together with the former barn’s current use, these details provide several points of reference for the area’s history.
Permaculture and workshops
The Maison de l’Écologie Urbaine et Pratique also runs permaculture training courses. Visitors can also take part in the Maison’s various workshops.
