Discover Boissy-sous-Saint-Yon through a six-kilometre walk and several distinctive themes from its local history. The Sentier du Patrimoine leads through the village; Saint-Thomas-Becket Church, the Ferme des Tourelles and the communal washhouse offer further points of interest in the area’s cultural history. The landscape and seasonal farm produce complete the picture.
A walk with information panels
The Sentier du Patrimoine runs through the village, along streets and past notable sites. Fourteen educational information panels accompany the six-kilometre route and give the walk a thematic framework. One stop by the pond explores the local flora and fauna. As well as sites in the village, the route therefore includes a nature theme.
The Sentier also features two quiz trails in brochure form. The brochures can be collected from the town hall or downloaded. If you plan to use one, check in advance whether it is currently available, as availability may change. This gives you another way to explore the route’s stops in addition to the walk itself.
Church, farm and washhouse
Saint-Thomas-Becket Church is fully protected as a French historic monument. The decree granting this status is dated 6 May 2015. Its history begins with a chapel commissioned by Thomas de Boissy: the church developed from it and later became the parish church. Its origins and its historic-monument designation mark two different chapters in the area’s history.
The Ferme des Tourelles also offers a glimpse into the area’s past. Today, only the residential building, two pavilions and the gateway remain. The farm is considered a remnant of the Fief d’Artois; the surviving structures give this historical connection concrete names and forms.
The communal washhouse represents a different theme: industrialisation and social change in the 19th century. It complements the church’s religious history and the farm’s historical connection with a social perspective. Visitors interested in local history will find different focal points in these buildings, rather than a single narrative.
Landscape, park and seasonal produce
La Vidange, a tributary of the Orge, flows through the commune of Boissy-sous-Saint-Yon. Along with the stop by the pond, which focuses on flora and fauna, the river offers a perspective on the area’s landscape. The nature theme complements the historic buildings, without implying that the river and the pond stop are one and the same.
In Parc de l’Ormeteau, the Maison des Animaux helps make the park an environmentally committed place for recreation, exchange, meeting and community initiatives. If you would like to plan your visit around the Maison des Animaux, check in advance which activities are currently available.
The Ferme Bio des Tourelles in Boissy-sous-Saint-Yon offers another connection to the region: it sells seasonal organic fruit and vegetables directly from the farm. Seasonality is an important part of planning. The specific selection depends on the season and should not be regarded as unchanged throughout the year.
