At 1,155 metres, Lac de Lamoura is the highest lake in the Jura. The Sentier du Lac de Lamoura runs around the lake and crosses wetlands and a moor via a wooden boardwalk that avoids disturbing these sensitive habitats. Six information panels along the route explore the valley’s geology, the former use of water power and the lake’s aquatic life.
Lakeside Trail and Swimming Area
The circular trail links the lakeshore landscape with insights into its natural and geological features. Those exploring the lake on foot encounter both the wetlands and the topics covered by the information panels along the way. The Sentier du Lac is therefore about more than a loop around the lake: it also highlights the history of the landscape and how it was used in the past.
Lifeguards are on duty at Lac de Lamoura beach in July and August. As of 27 July 2026, swimming and water sports had been prohibited in the swimming area since 18 July after anatoxins were detected there. Check the latest conditions before swimming.
Stone-Cutting Crafts and Local Culture
The Musée des Lapidaires explores the history of stone-cutting in the Haut-Jura—a craft practised there from the 18th century to the present day. A 1.5- to 2-hour guided tour with a documentary film is available for groups of at least twelve adults; dates may vary. During school holidays, the museum also offers children’s workshops entitled “Le monde des pierres”. Availability may vary depending on the holiday period.
Another cultural event is the Fête de l’Abonde, held every year on 15 August in Lamoura. The festival includes street theatre and showcases of local crafts. The programme may change from year to year.
The Gaïa Loisirs family leisure park offers suspended nets among the trees and large wooden games. Activities include options on foot, on horseback, or with ponies or donkeys. Alongside the lakeside trail and local crafts, visitors can choose from a range of leisure activities in the village.
Cycling Through the High Country
Les hauteurs de Lamoura is a moderately challenging 48-kilometre circular route in the Jurassic Vélo Tours network. It passes through Lajoux, Prémanon and Lamoura. The route crosses high-altitude landscapes of valleys, moors, wildflower meadows and mountain forests around Lac de Lamoura.
The Sentier du Lac runs around the lake, while the cycling route offers a different focus, with its length, moderate difficulty and the villages it passes through. Choose between a trail focused on the lake and moorland and a longer circular route through several villages, without confusing the two routes.
Cross-Country Skiing, Snowshoeing and Downhill Skiing
The Site Nordique de Lamoura offers cross-country skiing and marked snowshoe trails. Both activities are seasonal and depend on winter operating conditions. Lamoura is also the starting point of the Transjurassienne cross-country ski race: the course covers 68 kilometres to Mouthe in the Doubs département. The exact race arrangements may vary from one edition to the next.
Downhill skiing is also available in Lamoura via the La Serra lifts. The winter offering therefore includes cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and downhill skiing; which activities are available during your trip depends on the season.
