Longchaumois combines botanical themes and industrial history with a range of options for active days. The Maison de la Flore explores plants and regional activities; the Maison du Mètre is dedicated to the manufacture of metal measuring rules. For outdoor exercise, choose from the Bike Park, a marked mountain bike loop and a trail to Orcières.

Botany and industrial history

The Maison de la Flore presents an exhibition of freshly collected plants. The plants are identified and labelled with information about their family, genus, species, habitat, conservation status and toxicity. The exhibition also covers regional themes related to water- and forest-based activities, including mills and sawmills, as well as the industrial manufacture of glasses and metal measuring rules.

The Maison du Mètre preserves and presents the industrial heritage of the Haut-Jura and Longchaumois, particularly the manufacture of metal measuring rules. It reconstructs the last workshop in this trade as it appeared in 1960, after a century of activity. Unlike the broader range of topics at the Maison de la Flore, the focus here is on a specific product and its workshop history.

Cycling and seasonal activities

The Bike Park de Longchaumois is a free-to-access facility with six trails for different ability levels. Its learning area features steps, boardwalks and berms, allowing beginners to practise and gain confidence on a mountain bike. The Tour de Longchaumois – 28B offers a different experience: it is an easy 22.9-kilometre mountain bike loop, follows blue marker no. 28 and is an official route in the Haut-Jura Regional Natural Park’s Geotrek network. Each detail serves a different purpose: 22.9 kilometres is the length, “easy” is the difficulty rating, and blue no. 28 is the route marking. If you prefer a single loop with a stated distance, choose the 28B; if you are looking for practice features and trails at different ability levels, consider the Bike Park as another cycling option.

The Rosset ski lift has a green run suitable for children and beginners. As a seasonal activity, operating conditions may vary; check before your visit. The La Cascade de Pissevieille – 16N trail continues to the hamlet of Orcières, which is part of the municipality of Longchaumois.

Activities and a taste of the region

The Ferme équestre de la Pelaisse offers activities for all ages and families. Arrangements may need to be made in advance; if you plan to take part, confirm the details in good time.

On the outskirts of Longchaumois, the small shop at the Fruitière chaumerande offers Comté for tasting at three stages of maturation: mild at eight months, fruity at 13 months and reserve at 18 months. Product availability may vary.
