The Belaine runs through Foucherans in a valley setting. The riverside landscape and the village’s history give your stay two distinct points of interest: a view of the village’s location and historic traces found in its buildings and walking routes. When planning your visit, it is worth distinguishing between the visiting options at each stop.

Church and historic architectural features

Foucherans church was built in the 16th century in the Romanesque style. Renovation in 2001 restored its original appearance. Inside are two valuable paintings from the 16th and 17th centuries; one of them has been classified as a historic monument since 1958. The village’s history thus encompasses both the church’s construction and works of art from two centuries.

Another historic thread is the workers’ housing estate of the former ironworks. It was built between 1890 and 1914. The buildings have three storeys, including a basement level. The village’s history can therefore also be explored through the estate’s architecture. This is a different architectural scale from that of the church: the buildings of a workers’ housing estate rather than a religious building.

Walking routes and visiting options

The 2018 municipal map shows a walking route through Foucherans with 16 stops. The stated distance is 5.5 kilometres, and the estimated duration is 1 hour 30 minutes. Route details may have changed, so check the route and information before setting out. A walking tour of Foucherans also includes a visit to the main building of the military camp; find out about current visiting options in advance. The Vieux château is not open to visitors. Check its visitor status again before making plans.

The fitness trail runs around the pond and animal park. If you plan to use it, check the route and the condition of the facilities before your visit. The information about the village walking tour and the fitness trail serves different planning purposes: the municipal map gives the distance and duration of the former, while the latter is defined by its location by the pond and animal park.

Pond, walks and fishing rules

The Etang de Foucherans is ideal for family walks. Motor vehicles must be left in the designated car park and are not permitted elsewhere on the grounds. Follow this rule and check the notices on site, as regulations may change.

Separate conditions apply to fishing at the Etang communal: Foucherans residents may fish for free, while visitors may fish only when accompanied by a resident. These rules were updated in April 2026. Confirm them again before planning a fishing visit so you can take the participation requirement into account in advance.

Seasonal events and picnic area

In March, the Foire de l'Escargot is one of Foucherans’ annual highlights. The Marchés au Clair de Lune bring together local craftspeople and producers, as well as a fruit and vegetable seller. Food stalls serve grilled dishes, chips, hot dogs and other light refreshments between 6 pm and 9 pm. Dates are seasonal and participating vendors may vary, so check the event dates and offerings before your trip.

The Foucherans corn maze has a shaded, equipped picnic area between the mazes. Its facilities may change with the seasons. This provides a dedicated place to take a break alongside the events and countryside, but you should not assume that the facilities remain the same throughout the year.
