La Rosière’s natural landscape ranges from a nutrient-poor pond to a hiking trail that passes near a historic fort. It also features traces of local history and winter activities. This gives you a choice of different themes when planning your trip: landscapes and plant life, the Le Roséria trail, or cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

Moorland, pond and plant life

The Type 1 ZNIEFF natural area “Tourbière en Ronde Fin et Étang de Bachetey” covers La Montagne and La Rosière. One feature of this natural landscape is Étang Bachetey: the pond is oligotrophic, or nutrient-poor, and its water is acidic. Its ecological classification makes the pond a notable natural feature of the area, alongside its hiking and winter activities.

Étang Bachetey is home to notable floating aquatic plant communities. These include narrowleaf bur-reed and dwarf water lily; both plants are protected in Franche-Comté. The characteristic flora of Tourbière en Ronde Fin and Étang Bachetey also includes four nationally protected plants: “laîche des bourbiers,” “scheuchzérie des marais,” “rossolis à feuilles rondes” and “rossolis à feuilles intermédiaires.” The different protection designations distinguish between regionally protected aquatic plants and the four nationally protected species.

Le Roséria and local history

The Le Roséria hiking trail passes near Fort de Rupt. The fort is part of a Séré de Rivières defensive system dating from the early 19th century. The circular trail invites you to discover crosses, calvaries, fountains, isolated hamlets and former farms in the southern Vosges. Hiking here also offers a chance to see the historic and rural features that shape the trail.

Le Roséria starts at the Fontaine in the courtyard of La Rosière town hall. It is right beside the tourist stop, making it a practical landmark at the start of the trail. The Fontaine was built around 1880 and renovated in 1999 by Christian Bergeret, an architect from Vesoul. Its construction and later renovation give the fountain a local history of its own, separate from the military history of the nearby fort.

Another notable feature is the Table du partage, a public artwork at the town hall. A blue line engraved deep into the table represents the watershed. Alongside the historic buildings, this brings a visual representation of the landscape into the village.

Hiking and winter activities

There are two specifically named places for winter activities. Cross-country ski trails and snowshoeing routes start at Fort de Rupt. The Domaine nordique des 1000 Étangs is located on the heights of the municipalities of La Montagne and La Rosière, where you can go cross-country skiing, skate skiing and snowshoeing. Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are available at both places, while skate skiing is mentioned at the Domaine nordique.

Choosing the focus of your stay can help you distinguish Le Roséria from the winter activities: the circular trail combines hiking with crosses, fountains, hamlets and former farms, while the named trails, routes and sports are all about winter. This comparison helps you organize your trip around different themes without assuming a particular duration or fixed itinerary.

The Cascade du Tampa is another natural feature of the area. This rocky waterfall is on private property at the edge of the D 237 between the villages of Corravillers and La Rosière. The fact that it is on private property is an important part of the location description.
