Cubry combines cultural history with nature and routes to suit different time frames. At the Château de Bournel, architectural landmarks and building history take centre stage. At the Roches de Nans et Bois de Châtel site, contrasting slopes shape the vegetation. There are also walking and cycling routes that pass through Cubry. When planning, it is worth first deciding between individual cultural or nature visits and longer routes.

Natural Contrasts and Trails

At the Roches de Nans et Bois de Châtel site, opposing slopes create different microclimates. Plants on shady, damp slopes are adapted to these conditions; other plants, also adapted to their setting, grow on bright, warm and dry slopes. A trail through natural terrain with little elevation gain leads through the area; allow about two hours for the visit. Weather and safety conditions can change. Check these conditions before your visit.

Another route at the site passes through Cubry, Fontenelle-Montby, Nans and Uzelle. This means the nature site offers two different options: a visit to the area itself or a route through several municipalities.

Castle History and Heritage

The Château de Bournel, including its chapel, the vegetable garden grotto and the monopteros in the Bois de Châtey were classified as historic monuments by a decree dated 28 August 1989. The date refers to the classification, not the construction date of the buildings.

The Domaine de Bournel offers a one-hour walk through the French garden, with commentary on the building history of the 18th-century château and the 19th-century neo-Gothic château. The tour thus covers two different building histories as it leads through the garden. Dates and availability may vary; check the offer in advance.

Walking and Cycling

The GR® de Pays des 7 Rivières passes through Cubry and is a moderate, 82.2-kilometre, four-day tour. Its varied landscapes include forests and fields. The Les Roches de Nans hike is just over 20 kilometres long and also passes through Cubry. In terms of distance, the longer four-day tour and the hike of just over 20 kilometres therefore differ. Conditions on hiking routes may vary; check route conditions before setting off.

On the GR® de Pays des 7 Rivières, a footbridge in Cubry and Cubrial allows walkers to bypass the stream bed, particularly during heavy rain. Check the condition of the bridge before setting off. The Grand Tour des Deux Vallées Vertes also passes through Cubry. For cycling, the Bam! Les dômes route passes through Cubry; after crossing the Bach de l’Étang in the Ognon plain, it offers a view of the Château de Bournel. Route conditions can change; check them before setting off.

For planning your stay, the different time frames provide a useful guide: one hour for the garden walk, about two hours for the nature trail and four days for the GR as a complete route.
