Audincourt combines striking church art with collections and a varied cultural programme. The Église du Sacré-Cœur and the Église de l’Immaculée Conception represent different architectural approaches, alongside exhibitions, festivals, and events centred on theatre, music, and food. This makes it possible to plan a trip around a specific interest—from sacred architecture to a particular event date.

Two churches, two architectural approaches

The Église du Sacré-Cœur dates from 1950. Architect Maurice Novarina designed the simple sacred building on a basilica-style floor plan. Above the entrance is a colourful mosaic by Jean Bazaine; inside, it is complemented by seventeen multicoloured stained-glass windows created by Fernand Léger. The building’s design and artworks make the church a particularly well-defined focus for anyone interested in considering architecture and visual art together.

The Église de l’Immaculée Conception dates from 1930 and was designed in the shape of a Latin cross by monk-architect Dom Bellot. Visible parabolic structures divide the nave and distribute the light. Near the claustras are luminous stained-glass windows by Valentine Reyre. Compared with the basilica-style layout of the Église du Sacré-Cœur, this church reveals a different design concept: the floor plan, the division of the interior, and the way light falls all work together. The two churches therefore offer different architectural themes rather than simply repeating the same kind of visit.

Collections spanning local history and art

At the Maison du Patrimoine, models of the Patouillet district are displayed alongside objects from crafts and working life. The exhibition includes a Martinet, two communal cooking cauldrons, blacksmiths’ tools and aprons, as well as cast-iron bricks, charcoal, and iron ore. Historical office equipment—including calculating and typewriting machines, as well as wage registers—completes the selection. The shift from raw materials and workshop objects to office equipment and registers offers different ways into local history.

The Centre d’Art – Donation Patt offers a different focus, with more than 150 paintings and sculptures. Visitors wishing to focus on the collection can plan a guided tour: it is organised by the Office de Tourisme du Pays de Montbéliard; availability may vary. Audincourt thus offers a choice between an exhibition covering a wide range of local-history themes and an extensive art collection.

Events and cultural activities

Rencontres & Racines takes place in Parc Japy in the centre of Audincourt and has been running for more than thirty years. Through its associations and varied programme, the festival encourages visitors to discover different cultures. The FĂŞte de la BD features exhibitions and events and offers opportunities to meet authors. Its specific programme changes with each edition, so check the dates and programme details if you want to plan your trip around the festival.

At the Salon des Vins et du Goût, winemakers from different regions lead wine tastings. Food stalls offer local specialities and regional products. The participating winemakers and stalls may vary from one edition to another. If your trip is focused on food and drink, it is therefore worth checking the details of the event before planning your stay.

Theatre and photography are also among the city’s cultural themes. The Maison Unité offers theatre-practice courses and hosts theatre companies from all over France so they can work on their productions. At the Maison de la Photographie, the Mode Ouverture association invites an artist from France or abroad each month to exhibit their work; dates may change. Check the current schedule if these exhibitions or a particular event programme are a deciding factor for your travel dates.
