Perelli is divided into seven hamlets: Fungaghja, Casenove, Paese, Pied’a Costa, Casella, Quercepiane and Ferrera. Their names bring the settlement structure of the village to life. Punta di l’Orsaja rises above Perelli, reaching an elevation of 1,438 metres. Perelli is also part of the Parc Régional de la Corse.

Hiking in and around Perelli

The Boucle 23 circular hike passes through Perelli, is about 9 kilometres long and takes approximately 3 hours; it was formerly called “ronde des fontaines”. The distance and duration provide a rough guide for planning the route into your day. At 11.5 kilometres, Boucle 24 is longer and intended for experienced hikers. It runs from Ortale via Piazzali, Novale and Valle d’Alesani to Perelli. For a direct comparison, Boucle 23 has an approximate time estimate, while the longer Boucle 24 is explicitly described as requiring experience.

The Boucle 31 circular hike begins at Perelli’s parish church and passes through a chestnut grove. The long-distance “Mare a Mare Nord” trail also passes through Perelli, on its route from Moriani to Cargèse. This places local circular hikes and a long-distance route alongside one another as different hiking options.

Trail conditions on Boucles 23 and 24 may change. Check the current conditions before setting off.

Churches and cultural traces

The parish church of Saint-Sylvestre may date from the 17th century or the first half of the 18th century; it is mentioned in a document from 1776. It was remodelled in the 19th century. The ceiling vaulting the nave features monumental wall paintings. They depict the Immaculate Conception, the Trinity and the four Evangelists.

The chapel of Saint-Pierre and Saint-Paul may date from the 19th century. It was remodelled at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Its possible date of origin and the remodelling mark two distinct phases in its architectural history. The year 1776 refers to the mention of Saint-Sylvestre in a document, not to its construction date. Three points in time can therefore be distinguished: the possible origin of the parish church, its mention in a document and its remodelling in the 19th century. The chapel is thought to date from the 19th century and was remodelled around the turn of the 20th century; its origin is thus placed later than that of the parish church.

Perelli is considered a possible birthplace of Petru Giovanni Ficone, known as Grossu Minutu. The mythical figure is said to have been born in 1715; his pranks and anecdotes illustrate the Corsican “Macagna”. This storytelling tradition adds a different cultural reference point to the architectural history of the churches.
