Albitreccia combines a distinctive coastal character with hiking trails and a parish church whose building history unfolded over several phases. At Agosta Beach, golden sand stretches for two kilometres, with wilder sections at both ends. At the same time, the Mare Ă  Mare Centre crosses the commune towards Col Saint-Georges and continues through the upper Taravo. Choosing a destination based on what you want to focus on allows you to explore the sea, trails and local architectural history here.

Agosta Beach and water sports

Agosta Beach is two kilometres long and has golden sand, with wilder beach sections at both ends. Diving, parasailing and jet skiing are available at the beach. Agosta Fun Beach offers jet ski introductions, guided outings and rentals without a guide. Parasailing takes you over the sea, with views of the Corsican coast; the activity is available for one, two or three people. Agosta Plongée offers introductory dives from the age of eight, training courses and exploration dives. If you are planning a particular activity, check its availability before your trip.

Two long-distance trails, different destinations

Two long-distance trails follow different routes. The Mare à Mare Centre crosses Albitreccia towards Col Saint-Georges and continues through the upper Taravo to the GR 20. The Pietrosella–Bisinao hike follows the Mare e Monti Sud, which runs from Porticcio to Propriano, and reaches Bisinao, a hamlet in the commune of Albitreccia. The route taken is the key factor in choosing between them: on the Mare à Mare Centre, Albitreccia forms part of a route that continues to the GR 20; Pietrosella–Bisinao identifies the hamlet as the destination of a hike on the route between Porticcio and Propriano.

Ruins and village landscapes

In A Pedilonga, the ruins of a castle belonging to the Lords of Ornano stand on a long, narrow rocky ridge about 40 metres long and at an altitude of more than 950 metres. U Pianu is a ruined hamlet above Monti-Rossu; it can be reached via the track that runs above the hamlet. The two settings are markedly different: in A Pedilonga, castle remains and the rocky ridge define the place, while at U Pianu, the hamlet and access via the track are the main points of reference.

The building history of Sainte-Catherine

The parish church of Sainte-Catherine offers another point of interest. Its floor plan is in the shape of a Latin cross. The nave has a barrel vault, while the choir is crowned by a calotte; the bell tower has an open sound aperture topped by a lantern. The main building campaign began in 1854, and the shell was completed in August 1856. Painted decoration was added in 1872 and restored at the end of the 20th century. The building’s form and later decoration can therefore be considered as distinct aspects: the paintings came after the main building campaign, and their restoration took place much later. Those interested in ecclesiastical architecture can explore the building through three details: its cross-shaped floor plan, the different vaults of the nave and choir, and the top of the bell tower. The dating of the decoration adds a further perspective on the later building phases.
