Trépail offers trails with different time requirements and themes: short walks, easy longer routes and a path through the vineyard landscape. There are also historic sites and insights into winegrowing. To plan your visit, compare the approximate walking times with your interests.

Choose Trails by Time and Distance

The easy Boucle du Tilleul covers about five kilometres and takes around two hours. It starts on rue du Stade in Trépail and passes through varied forest landscapes with different tree species and planting ages. The easy Circuit des Faux de Verzy also starts on rue du Stade. At about nine kilometres and around three hours, it is the longer of the two routes and continues through the forest towards the Faux de Verzy.

The approximate figures give you a clear idea of the difference in time required: compared with the Boucle du Tilleul, the Circuit des Faux de Verzy takes about an hour longer and covers four more kilometres. L'Escapade is a shorter option: this easy walking route is 2.6 kilometres long, takes about an hour and traces the history of Trépail. You can choose between a short historical walk and longer routes through forest landscapes.

Forest and Vineyard Landscapes

A distinctive forest feature can be found along the forest section of the PR 48 Circuit de la Forêt Royale: nearly 1,000 twisted beech trees are grouped along the trail. Those interested in vineyard landscapes can take a different route with the Sentier des loges de vigne. The 5.2-kilometre route is accessible on foot; several loges de vigne can be visited along the way, in the heart of the vineyard.

Information panels along the Sentier explain the history and typical landscapes of Champagne. The trail showcases the vineyard landscapes of Trépail and the winegrowing that produces the famous Champagne. The routes thus focus on different things: the forest trails pass through various woodland areas, while the vineyard path connects the landscape with the loges and their history.

Local History and Winegrowing

The Lavoir de Trépail now serves as a covered rest stop for hikers. The Eglise Saint-Martin offers a different historical perspective: it dates from the 12th century and underwent extensive renovations, particularly in the 16th and 17th centuries. The cult of Saint Cucufat has been celebrated in the church since the 18th century. Its architectural history and religious tradition are among the different historical features that make Trépail distinctive.

You can also learn more about winegrowing at Champagne Fredestel. A free guided tour of the traditional press, fermentation cellar and wine cellar is offered, followed by a tasting. The reception room also displays a collection of old equipment used in winegrowing and winemaking. The landscape, historic buildings and work involved in producing Champagne offer different ways to discover the area. If you plan to take the tour, check the latest dates in advance.
