There are two distinct starting points for a trip to Gueux: the partially protected Circuit automobile de Gueux and its regular markets, association activities and cultural events. The circuit’s architecture is a key attraction, while the events offer monthly and seasonal occasions to visit. Bus line E6 also connects Gueux with central Reims.
Circuit automobile de Gueux: partially protected
Since May 7, 2009, the Circuit automobile de Gueux has been partially protected as a historic monument. The protected elements include the covered Benoist, Wimille and Sommer grandstands, as well as the press grandstand and its boxes along the racetrack. They also include the uncovered grandstands with concrete benches, the Lambert timekeeping pavilion and the pits with their central pavilion. Other protected features include an underpass, a metal scoreboard and the support structure for a fuel distribution tank.
The facilities thus range from spectator and press areas to timekeeping and operational features. Anyone interested in the architectural history of motorsport will find a distinctive local attraction here, with protected features ranging from grandstands to technical components.
Markets and the best times to visit
On the first Saturday of every month, except August, the Marché Paysan brings local producers, craftspeople and other partners together at Ferme Prévost, opposite Place des Fêtes. It offers a regular monthly event at a clearly specified location. If you would like to plan your trip around this market, check the exact date in advance.
Other market days take place at different times of year: in May, the Association Escales à Gueux organizes the Marché des Saveurs. The Marché de Noël takes place in late November or early December; the Association Escales invites numerous craftspeople to take part. The schedule therefore ranges from a monthly event, with an exception in August, to markets in May and at the end of the year. Check the exact dates for these events before your trip, too.
Association activities at the circuit and Lac de Gueux
On the first Sunday of each month, except in summer, the Association des Passionnés du Circuit holds a morning event called “Cars and Coffee.” Visitors can share their common passion there. The event combines a regular gathering with the circuit as its theme; if you are traveling to Gueux for it, note the summer break and check the event date.
Other association activities take place at Lac de Gueux. The Association des Pêcheurs du Lac de Gueux regularly holds fishing competitions on the shore. Members of the Club de Modèles Réduits de Gueux demonstrate some of their prototypes on the lake. The activities have different focuses: fishing competitions on the shore and model club demonstrations on the lake.
Cultural activities in the town
The Association Escales Ă Gueux offers exhibitions, art workshops and concerts in the church. Gueux also hosts numerous cultural events throughout the year, including conferences, performances by local artists, meetings with authors and exhibitions. Alongside the markets and association activities, there are also various cultural events to choose from, and it is worth checking their dates when planning your trip.
The village media library is open to both Gueux residents and other visitors.
