The Moulin de Dosches is a faithful reconstruction of the windmills typical of Champagne. Built entirely of wood, it follows the principle of the post mill: the entire structure turns to face the wind. The reconstruction was built using traditional 18th-century techniques. When planning a stay, you can explore several themes: the mill and flour-making, a marked walking trail to the church, and the landscape, with its protected forest and viewpoint.

Windmill, garden and traditional crafts

At the Moulin, the Jardin Ancien showcases traditional plants and environmentally friendly growing methods; the grounds also include the “La Meule” plant maze. Demonstrations of flour-making with hand mills add a traditional craft element to the site’s architecture. The shop offers local products, including flour made by the miller. Self-guided visits and educational group visits are available; check what is currently offered before your visit.

A walking trail leads to the church

The Sentier de découverte de Dosches starts at the Place du village de Dosches and leads to the Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste. The municipality maintains the trail, which is marked with a sheep symbol. It is 4.2 km long and takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes. The distance and approximate duration provide a clear basis for planning a walk.

The Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste dates from the 19th century. The Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste dates from the 19th century. The “Vierge de Pitié” is a 16th-century sculpture that was listed as a movable object under monument protection on 27 December 1913. The church building and the sculpture thus represent different historical periods. The Moulin also offers a distinct point of reference in time: it is a reconstruction built using traditional 18th-century techniques. Landscape between plain and forest

Dosches lies at the boundary between the Champagne crayeuse and the Champagne humide, between a grain-growing plain and a wet forest. The Route du Balcon du Parc passes through the village. The Haut de la Garenne viewpoint is 203 metres above sea level and offers a panorama of the Forêt d’Orient. The route and viewpoint offer different ways to experience the landscape: one passes through Dosches, while the other is a named vantage point at a specific elevation.

The Forêt des Bas Bois in Dosches is designated as a Natura 2000 site, falls under the Ramsar Convention, and is listed as both a ZICO and a ZNIEFF. It is home to protected yellow-bellied toads. For a nature-focused visit, these features offer distinct points of interest: the Forêt des Bas Bois is notable for its protected status and protected species, while the Haut de la Garenne is a viewpoint overlooking the Forêt d’Orient.
